I need help understanding utility of combining IR HID with night vision goggles. Details:

Customer of ours has a few 4000 lumens HID lights, throw over 1000 meters. We sell 850 nm IR filters that turn the beam from white to near IR.

What happens when I combine such a bright source with a monocular or binocular 3G night vision system? Am I able to significantly increase the observable range? Will I swamp the detector for objects within 100 meters?

How should I advise our customer and what products would be recommended? Money not a huge problem.

the beam from an HID will be very thick with a lot of spill, this can & will cause washout on close items when used with NVGs. Xenon Short Arc eliminates this issue with it's pencil thin, laser like beam. LEDs may be able to produce a narrow beam but i'm uncertain as to what IR LEDs are available and how they are effected by lens type optical trains.
