Hi folks, I've got an X7R Marauder and Olight Headtorch, along with the usual assortment hidden away - typical of a person in denial about becoming a flashaholic 🤭 I found myself hovering over a review of the 25,000 lumen (for three minute) X9R. £600 here in the UK. I'm impressed with this brand and the review was positive, but it is a bit hard for me to justify especially when I can already throw 12,000 lumens into looking for lost change behind the sofa. I suppose it really is a specialised SAR and security item. Are any of you tempted or saving madly for one?

I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of money. I haven't even really given this light the time of day since it was released and I saw the price. I have made it for years with my brightest light being an 1800 lumen P60 drop-in and my farthest thrower being a 60k candela Fenix TK41. Very rarely have I needed more output and for the most part runtime has been more important than output. My first big light will be here tomorrow (a 4k lumen TK75) and honestly now that I have it I don't forsee getting anything else.

An interesting light to be sure, but how far do you go? Lots of $$$$ for another nice torch, like so many other nice torches. I agree with tacgunner's sentiments. The TK is very nice, and also very adequate. The X9R probably does appeal to those requiring dedicated SAR needs. No denying the WOW factor, or the appeal to a LARGE TORCH collector.

For the majority of flashlight enthusiasts, including myself, mega flashlights that cost small (or not so small) fortunes are more about what we want than about what we need. Therefore, it is hard to justify such a purchase based on needs. On the other hand, toys for big boys are not justified based on needs. They are justified based on how deep our wallets are and how badly we want them. Go for it if you will not regret later on but restrain yourself if you will. Your decision will be justified in either case.

I have several Olight units, including an X7 Marauder. I also like this brand a lot but my latest justification is not (yet) placing an order for an Acebeam X70 rather than for an Olight X9R.

Interesting. Can I ask what it is in the X70 that's tempted you away from another Olight?

Flooders (better yet mules) with immense throw are appealing to me because unlike dedicated throwers, they throw by means of sheer power. This is area illumination rather than spot. Trying to visualise how large/big an area the X70 would illuminate with its 1000 metres of unfocused throw excites me more than what the X9R would do with 630 metres. A figure like 40K lumens and a feature like fan assisted cooling are also more exciting to me but again, these are not my needs. I simply want them.

Would love to see some beam shots when you get a chance. Against your X7 too!

I bought one... arriving Monday... it won't be the biggest light I have... the blf gt is the biggest... I pretty much have all the powerful lights on the market right now... just waiting on the x70 to come on sale...
