Well it seems everyone`s intent on changing their screen names and it`s confusing the pants off me! And I expect a few others know how I feel too. All those old messages with references to "telephony" and "KenB" now making less sense to newcomers.

Well I thought, for the sake of clarity, I`d post this little index thingy so we all know who we are again. Hope no-one minds?

Let`s see if HTML tables work here...yep, but sorry about the big gap, that seems to be inserted automatically
frown.gif
<table border="0" width="70%" align="center">
<tr bgcolor="000080"><td><font color="FFFFFF">Used to be...</font> </td><td><font color="FFFFFF">Is now called...</font></td><td><font color="FFFFFF">and then became...</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="FFFFFF"><td>telephony</td><td>Stingmon</td><td><font color="FFFFFF">.</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="F7F7FF"><td>KenB</td><td>all sorts of names</td><td>Ken B (again)</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="FFFFFF"><td>DougP</td><td>Quickbeam</td><td><font color="FFFFFF">.</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="F7F7FF"><td>Mr Ted Bear</td><td>Pooh</td><td><font color="F7F7FF">.</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="FFFFFF"><td>Lite-Lover</td><td>LightLover</td><td>Something Ridiculous</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="F7F7FF"><td>Gadget</td><td>Go, Go Gadget Flashlight</td><td><font color="F7F7FF">.</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="FFFFFF"><td>Spudgunr</td><td>Tater Canon</td><td><font color="FFFFFF">.</td></tr>
<tr bgcolor="F7F7FF"><td>KenBar</td><td>a few different ones</td><td>KenBar (again)</td></tr></table>

I`m sure there are a few more I`ve missed so I`ll add them later- let me know. And to those who make the change later on- why not post here and let us know.

Chris: I agree. All the name changing must be confusing the mess out of all the Newbies out there. Heck, I've been posting here for months now and it's hard for even me to keep up.

I guess after taking good care of the confusing "Star" issue, the next big confusion ender will be to get rid of the whole name changing thing by locking everyone's names into place as they stand. I mean, how are you supposed to recommend someone's post to a friend and say that "so and so really knows what he is talking about" and when your friend tries to find any of their post, they have up and changed nicks on them! Anyway, this post isn't here for the purpose of ticking anyone off, it's just here to offer a point of view and hopefully to cause people to think more about this issue.

That's one reason I added a line to my signature when I changed over - so people might have a better chance of associating "telephony" with "Stingmon" without going through piles of posts before finally "figuring it out".

Now, if we REALLY wanted to be confusing, I could change my nick to Telephony, and somebody else could change their nick to another respected member, etc. If I change my nick often, I will try to keep them having to do with spuds. The name changing does not really confuse me because I rarely look at the names of the posters. I didn't notice the ones that did change theirs until somebody pointed it out. But the sig lines make it easy to tell who is who.

Just to clarify for the table, you were "Spudgunr" right?

I know that names don`t mean a thing when all is taken into consideration, but it can get confusing when people quote from others ("originally posted by member"...)- and those others have subsequently changed their names. Gets tricky to find the post or topic that was being referred to, if you didn`t know the former screen-names.

I suppose we could all refer to each other by number? Those don`t change!

You've demonstrated real mastery of UBB work , Welsh Chris M. !

And very community spirited too !

Yes, I admit it - that I was once indeed the *potentially sexist* and inflammatory Lite-Lover

Then I became the less 3D Mag-Lite orientated LightLover

But I think I will always sign off as either *Lightlover*, or *Jahn*. (Ummm, so anyone who wants to know, will know it's still me ...... )

And I like my historical signature line - the earliest quote I know of containing "Torches" as both word and concept.

Anyways, I must dash - I want to change my name to something ridiculous

Dropped the "DP" from the end of "Quickbeam DP" - was planning on doing so after a while anyway - Signature still reflects my original name. Sorry Chris M., you'll need to update the table again.....

Hey David I have an idea, if someone changes their name can it reset their # of postings to 0?

I bet people wouldn't confuse the rest of us as much

If that happened, I would never change my name again... it took me a year to get close to 700 posts (without spamming the list) and I'd hate to have to start over. :-O

OUCH!
OK everyone, I for one apologize and take responsibility for starting the (only?) round of name changes in the CPF (a rather dubious honor, I guess), as it all seems to have started when I changed my name in Aragorn's welcome post a while back, but hey, I'm a new member and I couldn't come up with a good screen name at the time I registered. Quickbeam seemed like a great flashaholic screen name with a reference to JRR Tolkien (who's works I enjoy). I transitioned it from "Doug P" to "Quickbeam - Doug P" to "Quickbeam DP" to "Quickbeam" to try to ease the confusion, and still have my original screen name in my signature line. I can certainly see how it's confusing when the more senior members start changing their screen names. I was lost for a couple of days too, but I figured it all out. SOOOOO, Sorry everyone, I didn't mean to start something that would bloom into such an emotional issue

Wow, I thought Singmon started it...he`s a known trouble maker. Well, I`m glad you came clean. Is there a punishment we should bestow upon Quick beam?

Punishment... Hmph! Nice... See that folks, don't let anyone fool you! Honesty is NEVER the best policy! Lie whenever possible to make sure 1) you're not blamed 2) someone else gets blamed 3) you get all the credit. Hey, if it works for Micro$oft, it can work for you too!

LOL. Funny you should mention Micro$oft. Micro$oft is coming closer each day to falling to open source operating systems (by Bill Gates own courtroom admissions). So comes the end to all tyrants (and liars).

Moral of the story:

Honesty is the best policy, for the liar may prosper for a short season, but in the end his deceitfulness will catch up to him.

Or,

I'd rather be a scorned truth sayer than a beloved liar.

Well, look what name I finally ended up with !
(And I've begun to like it that way, too ...... )

Sorry for any confusions, but it was the same thing as Doug, ummm, I mean QB.
I didn't realise that it was a relatively serious issue, but a lot of people did take the opportunity to change their names at this 1st B/day point.

Just for the record, in case people are desperately searching for my sage advice, pungent critiques, and/or hilarious witticisms, my former names were -

Lite-Lover, Lite-lover, Light-Lover, Lightlover, lightlover +
Something Ridiculous, *Something Ridiculous*
**Something Ridiculous**
(That last was a sneaky way of showing my 4 stars. But being a True Socialist, I don't really believe in honours ...... )

I will now stick to
*something ridiculous

but will always sign off as
lightlover

Apologies !
