Hi all,
Greetings from the litter box.

Had an idea.

If you have a vanity plate or custom licence plate frame, reply to this post with it.

Someone is going to say "Ok wise guy, what's yours".
Glad you asked.

The Plate reads

LB NACL

It's a chemical expression.
LB= Pound
NACL=Sodium Cloride aka Salt
Ive been telling the good people of Virginia to go pound some. BTW Ive got dibs on LB SI02 (Silicon Dioxide aka sand)

The frame expresses my distaste for things solid state.

"Real Men Use Tubes"

Implying the solid state community has reasons to doubt it's mojo.

Was thinking of buying a used Corvett when I get home and puting the tag "Gauss" on it.
Gauss is the unit of measure for magnitism, and since those cars are ticket magnets, why not.

So, use only plates you have now and not wishful thinking, or someone elses good ideas.

The rear license plate on my truck is "2GRETAS"... When I was growing up, my step-dad nicknamed me "Greta". It stuck. My mom and step-dad still call me Greta and so does my husband. Well then we got this beautiful little female English Bulldog a couple years ago and I named her Greta... it seemed to be fitting. So now there are 2 GRETAS in the house... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grinser2.gif

My front plate is the Arizona state flag.

Don't have it but *tried* to get it many years ago: "NOTHING"

If that's breaking Jack_Crows "rules", sorry! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

I have two:

B HAPI

...just trying to spread some positivity. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

SOYFUEL

...trying to promote the use of American grown and produced, renewable biodiesel. A fuel that requires no military support to ensure it's flow to fuel our economy. If we ever do fight a war over fuel (I'll leave that to others to debate)...those using biodiesel at least won't have played a part in that.

"NO NUKES" is on the old non-running VW van in the driveway. Before we went into therapy "WE NORML" was on my wife's '93 Escort wagon. In Sept. 2002 it was changed to "NOT WAR" and will likely remain on the Escort. The '98 Chev LTZ sports "VOTE LIB". We also wear our bleeding hearts on our sleaves.

J,
We may disagree on a whole bunch of political and money issues, but perhaps you can see the humor of this.

Some years ago there was a back lash to the TMI accident. Part of that was the "No Nukes" concert.

Some friends and I came up with an idea to counteract what we saw as weak thinking.

The gag was to say we were going to invite a bunch of heavy metal bands to Madison Square Garden and put on the "Pro Nukes" show. Some people can be sold sand in the desert.

I spent many years of my life building the weapons you saw during DS1 and DS2. So when the Soviet Union imploded I ended up out of work. Spent a long time looking for an "I Like Uri Andropov" bumper sticker. You can count on a solid communiest in the Kremlen to keep you employed state side.

Peace is bad for my income situation. Having had the chance to see the people of Iraq, the feelings are a little more confused.

The amazing poverty of the road people here is hard to understand. In Kuwait nobody seems to be wanting for much. Here with it's greater oil reserves nobody should be starving or in need of the best medical care.

The preivous adminstration was truly a crime family with the resources of a major nation state. They took care of their own and the rest were just speed bumps.

We did the world a favor when Saddam becaume un employed.
Notice how the IRA quit. How Libia gave up, even Iran has begun to play nice. Bad guys are either arrested or turned into useful stiffs.

If we did DS II for oil, fine, ok I can accecpt that. What we will leave behind will improve the human condition and put on notice the rest of the world.

Let me give you a little flavor of the locals here.
Next to our comm trailer is the medical unit. The Army treats injured Iraqi's that come to the base for help.

A child burned because a cooking pot over turns is not a happy thing. In the states that kid would be crying and makeing a lot of noise. Here people take their injuries in silence. They are ingrained into not crying out in pain, for fear of being noticed by the former adminstration.

Such a thing at home would be byond our understanding back home, here it was a rule for social survival.

Unfortunatly CNN and company have a policy if "IF it bleeds it leads" so we see AMCITS hurt and killed, but nearly nothing on the average conditon of the formerally opressed millions.

Jack, that's good.
I hope all of the troops feel that their sacrifice is worthwhile and noble.

I just want it to be that we do it by choice...not because we feel we have to in order to secure our access to fuel. Reducing our need for imported oil increases our freedom of choice. There are plenty more people around the world suffering under a criminal dictator. Our choice to go or not to go is our freedom. It is that freedom that I work for with my SOYFUEL plate.

Ik,
I think it's wonderful that alternate fuels are avalable. For the longest time I have been on the wrong end of the ecnomic curve. I coulden't afford a Rabbit Diesel because of the price bite such engines demand.

I would drive an electric but diden't have the credit rating when GM had the Impact. When the Honda insight came out, that was too expensive as well.

Cars that can shunt 75kW to drive motors don't scare me. Used to work on higher power amplifiers than that.

So for the moment Im going to watch markets and prices. Got a 99 Ford Contour with a five speed, and an 89 C1500 with the 4.3 V6 in it. The Vett is a pipe dream right now so it won't figure into the issue. And if I do get one, it's a weekend and lodge meeting kind of toy. Not as a daily driver.

Virginia requires these cars to pass emissions testing every two years. This year Im having my truck updated with a rebuilt engine and transmission. I should get a minimum of five or six more years out of it. By that point in time gas hybrid tech should be cheap enough for people like me to afford.

Fixing what you already own has got to be a plus for the wallet and the environment than tossing out the clunker and having a new one built.

Some years ago I had a 15watt solar cell array. Loaned it to a friend and never did get it back. It was a cool tool to own. Perhaps I will get another one after coming home.

Looking foward to H2 technology when it becomes avalable.

I also feel there is a place in the world for nuclear fission and some day fusion technology.

Then again Im a tech geek and expect such devices to improve over time.

So much luck and fun.
Enjoy your toys and teach the rest of us to do better as well.

Lady S,

Before I got the LB NACL tags, I was toying with tags that would read...

NIPPERS

My first dog was named Nipper after the RCA dog. You see when I got her I also had a lot of RCA two way radios.

So Ive become a fan of all things Nipper.

Unfortunaly this April 5th will be one year since the wife and I had to put her down. Blind, deaf, teeth rotting out of the jaw, and arthritic. After 18 years the dog was in pain. The vet diden't try to talk us out of this. Emotionally Im still a mess have major guilt about this. The intelect knows this was the right decision.

We currently have a black and white JRT named Myla, she is a bit of work. Sweet, fast, a great hunter. Also prone to seizures. So about once a week she goes into auto vibrate mode. Loving little dog.

Joanne's dog is a little min pin mix. Rocky thinks he is the toughtest dog in the world. At 13 lbs he just can't pull it off. Sweet but stupid. Some day I will share some 'rocky ' stories.

Bull dogs are cool. One of the lady's in Herndon VA has one. Everybody comes over to pet him and say hi. A solid no fooling around dog.

Hope all is well.
Keep it warm
