I just formatted and reinstalled my computer about 2 months ago.
And already, it is completely infested with spyware, trojons, virus, and more.

Internet Explorers home page changes every day, sometimes to a crazy search page, sometimes to some crap porn page.
AVG antivirus finds about 5 Trojons on every complete scan, but, it will NOT delete or heal them !!
Windows itself, is going mad, using 99% CPU at all times. Windows is called "Explorer.exe" on the task manager, thats what shows as using 98% CPU at all times. And between 60 and 99 MB of memory !!!

I have ran Adaware, and Spybot, both found a ton of stuff, but I guess not all of it.
The computer also sometimes says it cannot find services.exe on startup, yet, I can see it running in the task manager.
I had to turn off Spybots real time protection, it will sit there allllll day beeping, saying something is changing a value, and asking me what to do, after 20+ times, I get tired of it and close it.

Please help, I am about 3 beeps away from using it as target practice.

IE and Outlook, not to mention Windows, are full of holes. Use Netscape instead. And get a commercial antivirus package. And don't open attachments without scanning them first... and even if you scan them, never open .pif, .scr, .exe, .msi files.

I've never had a virus on my home computer, even though I usually keep Norton off since it slows down the system. If you're careful about the things you run on your system and make sure you're behind a firewall, you don't really have to worry.

Frenchy, that might be one of them, I am not sure,
I'll have to write down the names of all of them tonight.

There are about 5 that AVG will not get rid of. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

Found a program called Startpage guard, from that other thread in the cafe, I think it will fix the Home page problem.

But, there is still the fact that windows is using 99% cpu, and 95MB of memory ! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/icon15.gif
God only knows what that is doing. eating hard drive knowing my luck.

Greymage,,,

Well, apparently you have to worry alittle. lol
I do NOT open ANY attachments, I can tell they are all bogus.

THis is the first bad time I have had, all the other times, I have been able to get rid of things fairly easily.

Roth,
If one more person says to stop surfing porn... ... ...

My guess, one of those stupid homepage, or search page things that has installed, and then let other things in.
Second guess, WAREZ sites. ... ... not that I would ever crack a program.

This has never been a problem in the past though.
Things seem to be getting worse the last month for email virus, and homepage stealers.

I have a few questions.... You said you reloaded two months ago... Did you run Windows update after that to make sure you had all of the critical patches applied? Also, after your reload did you install anti-virus or did you wait until you had problems? With as much stuff as your system seems to be hosed up with, I would prob go for a reinstall. You are going to get brain damage trying to remove half of the spyware it sounds like you have....

Maybe reinstall with XP? You can checkpoint that system, which is nice... not sure how much that really helps with viruses though.

[/ QUOTE ]Then it probably came through IE. Switch to another browser, or at least make sure you keep IE updated with security patches and have the security settings on it up high.

If your running AVG and Outlook 5, make sure the box is checked to the the plug-in for outlook. In AVG, go to control panel>e-mail scanner and make sure the box is checked.

If your having a great deal of problems, a reformat is probably your best bet.

What programs are you runniing....ad-aware? spybot? zonealarm? Do you have a firewall at all?

Email scanning is on.
I use Spybot, and Adaware.
I used to use Zonealarm, but havent had a firewall on it lately.
Zonealarm was more of a pain than it was worth.

Tried Pest Patrol, it found about 40 things,,, BUT IT WONT DELETE THEM !!!!
Its a trial version, and doesnt delete. gerrrrrrrrrrrrrr

You need to reinstall Zonealarm and just deal with it. Your lack of a firewall means that you're leaving yourself wide open to any number of things. Try also posting a listing of the names of the files that your various programs are finding but not deleting.
