tailswitch for AA mini-mag

If I recall corectly there is a company selling a tailswitch for a AA mini-mag and it was pretty expensive.Here's my alternative,I purchased a AA mini-mag type flashlight made ,I think by the Great Neck Tool co,it's an okay light,not as googd as a mini-mag but for $3.99(including Batteries)not a bad buy.One interesting point,it had an on-off tailswitch that fits a mini- mag,I tried to look manufacturer on the internet but came up with nothing,by the way I bought
this light a Auto Zone,an auto parts dealer a while back.

I tried to build a tailswitch using one of those momentary contact push switches from radio shack. It worked okay, but its not waterproof and needs electrical tape which is not to attractive, I would not rely on it in any situation. Why not spend like 30 bucks on a pelican light with a tailswitch from www.galls.com OR better yet, spend 50 bucks on a 6P surefire.

Legend Lights makes a AA light that has a cool push button tail cap, that fits a Mini Maglite. Last I looked, Legen AA lights are sold at Target, Brookstone, etc...Overall, they're good lights, and I like the push button...

dano you are absolutely correct about the Brinkmann Legend AA. I got this one free from some contest, but would have probably paid for it. Much better quality than the Mag. Nice tail switch, solid feel. It would be a little noisy for all you coverts, but it is momentary as well. My 2.

Is Legend the same as Brinkmann? Or is that by a different flashlight company?

Brinkmann is the manufacturer, Legend is the model name. I need to find a source other than Brinkmann direct for bulbs for my 3AA Legend.

Did the tailcap screw completely on the maglight?

Mine does not screw on all the way.

For what it is worth, the Streamlight Jr tailcap switch will fit a AA Mini-Mag. I do not know where to buy just the Streamlight Jr switch.

I bought one from Brightguy and I like it although it is a bit pricy. $4.5.

The thread pitch is slightly off between the Brinkmann Legend and the Minimag, put an o ring between or just leave it. And i highly recommend you put some teflon grease in the legend switch, electrolysis builds up soon and then you get flicker.

Where on the Brightguy site can I find the tailcap switch? Who makes it?

Perhaps a stupid question, but if you use that tailcap (or another one for that matter), does the twist on/off function remain?

so if the head is in "off" mode, the clickie wont turn on the light? IE, it serves to secure the light in transit etc? just think a tail switch and the Opelac..hmmmmmmmmmmm

Yup, you got it... The clicker switch is an additional switch in series with the MagLite switch. You have to have them BOTH in the "on" position in order for the light to light.

I believe the idea (at least the manufacturer's idea) is that you leave the head focused the way you want (and consequently "on"), and use the tailcap switch to turn it on and off. I suppose it lets you hold it "tactical style" (I doubt that's the right term) and flash it with your thumb, too.

I had to use one on my MiniMag when I put the LS in because I put one of dat2zip's max1764 boards where the original switch was (Thanks Wayne!), thereby breaking the twist-on-off functionality. Without the tailcap switch, it's just on all the time

Actually, before I cemented the head in place, the twist-on and off still worked sorta. If I screwed the head down enough, it would push on the collimator, which pushed on the LS, which pushed on the max1674 board, which pushed on the batteries, which compressed the spring. The max board would move down away from the body and break it's ground connection and the light would go out. But, I figured it wasn't such a good idea to put all that pressure on the LS and circuit board, and bought a tailcap switch from BrightGuy.

do you have the tailswitch from Zanhead gear? Is it a clickie switch or momentary? Looks like a much better one than the one from brightguy, but maybe I'm wrong. Does the red button extend past the tailcap, or does it sit flush with the end? Thanks
