I have a M@glite 2D modded with an WA ballast wich needs 12 volts. I want to run it on Nimh accu's and it works pretty well, only the light seems more blueish then when i'm using alkaline batts. Pherhaps it needs a little higher voltage than the nimh are giving.
I found a step-up regulator somewhere which has a 12V output.
Can some tell me if this will work?

This is the link: http://www.chipcatalog.com/TI/PT5041.htm
I don't know if the ballast needs a minimal current?

Why don't you just add another battery? There is a big efficiency hit when using a step-up regulator.

It may also be the opposit---NiHs give higher voltage under heavy load (HIDs do take 1A+ to run).

The "big efficiency hit" is not an automatic aspect of boost regulators (step-up).

Alot of it has to do with the skill of the designer. Even the choice of the right components will not cause automatic success.

because 8 AA's is the max for a 2D m@glite /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif
