As bajaiman has stated, a 5W DB LE will be in direct drive and under driven on 1x123 or 2x123 (won't even fire on 1x123). It sounds like you are after a BB700 for the 5W?!?
On the 1x123, it will be underdriven and behave similar to the TW4. You might get even better performance on 1x123 if you dropped the current down more, like to 611 mA. I am not a great proponent for set up which starve the converters for what they are designed for but many have been happy with these configurations.
Hi Guy's,
I would just like to say that I got my A2 5w BB500 head. This Thing is realy nice.I have been using it on the 1x123 Aleph pack with 15ohm switch, and on a E2E pack.NICE WHITE and BRIGHT.GREAT job Don, Thank you.I sent you a email about my next builds
Don: You just mailed my 5W BB700 aleph3 2x123 light and a 1x123 pack. Little late putting this on the thread. I have not received it yet but i want more already!!!!
But I have a question. If I was to order (soon) a Lux III LE and a Aleph1 head, what would you suggest for it bb, db, something else. I want real throw out of it on both the 1x123 and the 2x123. Any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.
Scrappy,Here is a quote from Don When I ask him the same thing.
" For 2x123 and Lux III, I still prefer the DB917 with a Lux III over all others."
I reread your post and did not catch the part about using 1x123 also.
I don't know if this will work on 1x123.
W4DIZ,
OK, I'll consider this an "add on" to your recent light. In general I hope we can support the shoppe when it comes to loose components since Wayne is going to the effort of stocking and providing these. No worries here and no complaints!
Scrappy,
A Wiz2/ LuxIII set at 400 or 500 mA will work on 1x123 as well as 2x123. It will not be as bright as a LuxIII driven harder, say at 750 or 917mA. If you want max output, you need to go with 2x123 exclusively. You can also go with a NexGen 1000 or 750 on 1x123 and have a brighter light than the Wiz2 400 (500) but it is confined to 1x123 or 1x Li-Ion. If you are considering using Li-Ion then the picture gets more complicated, anyway. I want to point out that if you go with a Wiz2, the low level is available but you don't have a range to choose from and you can get flickering and other anoyances from using the two stage switch.
In a more abreviated comment: If you are adamant about having the versatility of 1x123 and 2x123, I suggest a Wiz2 500. I think you would be happier with a NexGen 750 or 1000 on a 1x123 or a DB917 on 2x123.

Thanks for the heads up.Any more loose components I order will be from the shop.Sorry, it never crossed my mind.
2-stage tailcaps (Surefire):
1 x Black Z54 15 ohms “Hair trigger” between stages (Note: if no Z54s I can send you one)
1 x HA Nat Z52 15 ohms “Hair trigger”
1 x HA Nat Z52 22 ohms “Hair trigger”
Ray,
PayPal received but unfortunately you have paid for a light that I can't make! This is due to both considerations of parts on hand as well as limitations in the actual design of the light. I have a bunch of parts to process as well as some builds to make but I can see I will be spending more time at the computer at some point in communication and explainations. To those who have posted their orders here in this thread as well as you who have sent e-mails but not posted, I have your orders and will get on the stick with them. At this point, I have a back log of a couple days so I won't be getting these out as quickly as I'd like! Sorry!
Sorry about that Don. I knew I should have spoken to you first. Damn. Oh well, sorry for the problem. If you can refund the PP until I have a chance to discuss with you, that would be great. Thanks again.
Hi guys,
Everyone who has their orders in will be processed as soon as I can. I also have some components that need to be addressed by myself and then passed on to the anodizers and back. I have temporarily closed the offer to build for a couple days so I can get caught up here. I am afraid that I have more on my plate at the moment than I can handle and I am "loosing" it.
I tore one off forum customer a new sphincter orifice for a blunder that he commited. The punishment did not match the crime and it is up to me to get my act back together!
I suppose it is not realistic for me to hope that folks would follow the requested method of ordering as well as sticking to the builds and mods as offered and explained. Unfortunately the additional communication and time required for processing "off the page" stuff has taken its toll. I just need a little time here to get caught up without more "input"
Just received a “McGizmo Aleph 2-NexGen1000-15ohm”, which Don sent to me within a day of ordering it, unbeatable service I’d say!
I work with live sound and find a 2-stage light very useful, in the back of equipment racks as well as on stages.
The Twok Luxeon lll LED has a better tint and is more powerful than my ARC4+.
This Aleph 2 easily does the job of my Surefire A2, with a whiter light and a smaller size to boot!
Surefire is still handy to have around for their lovely Beamshaper (F04) which turns my new light into an even flood, no hot spot, very easy on the eye.
As you can tell, I’m a happy roadie, now off to the gig, check one tsoo, one tsoo!
My SDC1000 Aleph3 arrived and it is really unbelievable how well the 38mm reflector performs. The SDC works also very well with a one cell body + R123 LiOn cell, which is currently my EDC configuration
Don, I know you are closed for the time being and I am probably breaking the rules but I just wanted to post my order before I forget it...as a matter of fact don't even take this as an order just a reminder for myself but I am going to take your advice - I would like to order...no remind myself that I want to order a LE Lux III on a db917 and an Aleph1 head - 130 I think, all in raw aluminum. So when you open the shop back up I will get in line with everyone else.
Thanks,
Rich
PS let me pubically say that the 5w bb700 raw aluminum aleph3 is AMAZING - love it, thanks for the fast fast fast service and the awesome work that went into the light.
