The IMS are smooth as the stock maglite reflector. A modified mag reflector will give you a slightly smaller, brighter and in my opinion more defined hotspot with about the same amount of sidespill. Of course the IMS need less modifing in most lights. I really like minimag reflectors for high dome luxeons.
