I had a crazy thought I want to bring to life. I want to make a flashlight that has an extremely bright strobe effect or flash effect. Any ideas?

Such exists, albeit in a larger light. The Streamlight SL-20X or 35X has an electronic dimmer tailcap available as an accessory that does continuous variable dimming and also strobes. The 35X lamp on strobe pulses quickly is extremely visible and noticeable (400 lumens). Perhaps the circuitry in this special SL tailcap could be removed or modded? I got mine for around 20.

I'm not very electronically inclined (but I'm good with a soldering iron). Am I right to guess that all I need is a switch and a capacitor? (I hope that wasn't too stupid a question) /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ohgeez.gif

fwiw... Another flashlight that strobes is the Dorcy 1Watt-3AAA at about 3 Hz.

[Edit:] Oops! You said 'extremely bright'. So, nevermind. [/edit]
