Between Pelican M6 and SL TL-3, which has a better throw? I am leaning towards the M6 side cos it is smaller and easy in the pocket. I have a couple of SL, no previous experience with Pelican ligths. I would need about 100 yards thorw range. Pls dun ask me to buy both. Either one.
I have both, I usually take the PM6 because it is smaller, and it is bright enough. The TL-3 throws further, so I take it out sometimes but almost never need to use it. If I could only have one, I would probably keep the TL-3 because more throw can't hurt if you need it.
I have both. I originally had the M6 mounted on my M4 carbine for it's size and cost. It is pretty descent out to about 75-100 yards. I replace it with a Tl3. It does a pretty good job at double that range. A lot of light every where. Really to much for up close. The m6 is now on my shotgun.
If you don`t care the TL3 beeing a little longer than the PM6 go for the Streamlight!
It´s brighter throws further and can be carried at the pants with it`s pocketclip.
But on the other hand I guess the PM6 is the best light in it`s class.
You can`t go wrong with any of them.
I had them both. Kept the TL3!
Got the PM6 cos it is smaller. TL-3 has 2 version, xenon and LED. So is the PM6. PM6 is the longest throwing 2x CR123A batts stock xenon lamp in the market.
Hi everyone, I have been looking at getting a Pelicam M6 as well, and have a couple of questions that I thought I would tag onto the end of this thread rather than create a new one.
I currently use a UK eLed for firefighting operations, and would like a torch with considerably more punch/thrown than the incan version of the UK eled (which is the standard torch used in my service). Flashlight reviews seems to indicate that this is indeed the case, but I am interested in hearing how they compare from anyone who may own both lights. I find that both my eled and Electrolumens XM3 lack the power I sometimes need. (Both torches were useless when trying to light up the inside of a dark building from outside on a well lit day. To my dismay the $8 dolphin torch did a better job.)
Flashlightreviews also indicates that the PM6 is water resistant, so I assume it will handle rain ok??
I also want to use the included pouch that comes with it, but I wear a 2 inch wide belt with my yellows. Will the belt loop on the pouch fit a belt this wide?
Welcome to the CPF, Mattcad. As a former FF my experience has been that the narrowest pencil like beam will give the best results in smoke or fog.
I haven't used the PM6 but judging from other member's reports and Quickbeams throw chart, I'd guess it would be a good choice. Another light to consider for your turn out gear pocket, although larger, is the 2C Super PeliLight. It's got all the hazardous safety ratings and is on sale for $14 at www.brightguy.com. It has a laser like beam and really pierces through fog and smoke and it's dive rated.
The M6 is a nice light for the price and can serve 90% of my "bright light" needs. I don't directly compare the 2x123 PM6 to the 3x123 TL-3 since the TL-3 is larger and costs nearly twice as much. With that said, if you are looking for a light to use for those times when you really need to make sure you can light something up, it might make sense to grab a TL-3 instead. I own lights from both Pelican and Streamlight and am happy with them all, so pick the lights that fit your budget, size and brightness requirements.
The PM6 is a real workhorse with a beam that is incredible. Plus the lamp module is rated by Pelican for 75 hours bulb life. These bulb modules are very solid and only cost 25% of the cost of a Surefire bulb module. Mine is used on our rural place constantly.
Also check out the Pelican M6 led- another fantastic and useful light. Pretty good throw also.

How much further throw does it have to a SF E2d? sounds like an interesting light for the $$. VDG
Thanks for all the input, pretty much confirms what I already thought. I did look at the TL-3 but figured it was a bit big for my needs, especially considering I still want to carry my eLed in my pocket as well. It is also more than I really want to spend.
The safety ratings are also not a major concern for me, as our primary response is bushfire, and I still have my eLed afterall.
So it looks like I will be buying a PM6 for the new year I understand that BatteryStation has the best price??

[/ QUOTE ]I think the E2D will be similar to the G2, which means that the PM6 will significantly out throw it. They put out roughly the same amount of light, but the Pelican has pretty consistently been the best throwing 2x123 light out there. Whenever I'm curious, I like to reference this chart. For $33 on batterystation's CPF page, you really can't go wrong.
Here is a comprehensive review of the Pelican M6 compared to other lights. It includes a runtime chart showing the PM6's surprising superiority over other fine lights. The excellent TL-3 is a more powerful light, but in addition to using 3x123 and being longer, wider, heavier and more expensive it has a much shorter bright burn time than the PM6
