DMX Interface

From what I understand this is a set of standards for a recognised interface for controlling stage lighting and ofcourse lasers.

Does anyone know or recommend which interface is the best to use when using DMX with PC's. I.e. Serial, Parallel, USB or PCI.

Where can I buy such a DMX controller/converter cheaply and will allow PopelScan to intepret a laser attached to it.

I only ask because I have a laser system that has two channels on a DMX connector - one for X, one for Y - it is sound activated but I would like to do more, i.e. by programming with a PC.

I *think* DMX controllers interface with a PC via the serial port. I could be mistaking though.

DMX is a bit slow for controlling a laser scanning system directly, more used for triggering effects controlled by the laser systems native controller, there are quite a few DIY DMX things about:
