Again Thanks to all the GREAT info here, and the sperimenters, here is another alteration i managed all by my leetel self /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

when i heard about the 1Cell AA Luxeon , i had to have one, so i bought one of the few that existed.
but its output was weasily, it used a circuit board thing, and a side emitter.
Small it was, and it had a very good run time, but the 1 cell longer 2xAA minimag conversion was so much better.
So i had to change it, of course

i put a 3w emitter on a penny, stuck a screw on the back to extend to the battery tab, and the penny sinks to its head, which keeps it cool.
then i found some LI-ION batteries that are AA sized (thanks again guys) so no circuit stuff is needed, and its not only rechargable but 2 Months without a charge Here is its output.

the emitter location is not centered perfect, and i went with luxeon optics, instead of the reflector i did not even like (not smooth enough). so the light is a bit wackey, but it'll burn your eyes out , and fit in your pocket easy.

the li-ion battery has One layer of scotch tape around it, so it fits perfect, and because of the flashlight switching style, the base could not conduct to the flashlight caseing,

i put a longer spring in, to accomodate the slightly shorter AA li-ion battery. the other spring could be streched to meet it too, i just happen to have a longer spring.

ahh here are the pics

the "beamshot" (you always want one) is on the left, the wide one, with the 2AA Minimag conversion on the right.

again thanks for the info.

some interesting things i did, that i don't nessisarily recommend. i was trying to figure out how to mount an emitter, i was out of thermal epoxy, and soldering it to the penny was out of spec for it. emitter use is to difficult for me, i far prefer to have it pre-mounted
but i did it ANYWAYS, i put the penny on the gas stove, put a solder pool in the center of the penny, and managed to solder the emitter base right onto it, without getting the connectors in the blob.

i wont order an emitter again, but at least that worked.

now i got me the worlds smallest most powerfull rechargable led flashlight , in my own mind of course /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

Nice work, the 14500 batteries are great!!! I use them to drive LUX III's at 1.1A. eye melting is fun!
Jeff

BTW brop the res on your pics, 800x600 or 340x480 are good.
