Only 480mA from a M*glight 3D/DD/TWAK?

I've been poking around the archives to see if I could find where this topic has been covered, to no avail, so I'm going to look to the kind folks of CPF for help:

I finally got around to testing the current flow on my 3D M@glight/DD/TWAK mod and was shocked to see 480mA with fresh Energizer D cells. Hooked the DMM in series, downstream of the LED. What am I doing wrong, people?

Gratefully,

Dan

Is your DMM set to the 10A (or so) setting? On fresh cells, you should be seeing over an amp. On a DD setup, the easiest way to measure the current is to just remove the tailcap and close the connection with the probes of the DMM.

Tony,

Problem solved! I was using the 10A setting, but the DMM was set to the mA scale. DUH. I'm getting 950mA now--much, much better. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

CPF comes through again! Thanks, Tony.

As Chop said.

But if still same reading, then as Al Pacino said in, "Dog Day Afternoon": "Somethin's wrong heah - somethin's really, really WRONG Heah!"
