Direct driving the L1 head with 2X123?

I've noticed that the my L1 head (older Lux1 version)will fit and operate on a E2x body. Is this a wise thing to do?

i believe it is ok to run the L1 on 2x123 because it has a buck/boost circuit

6 volts from 2 CR123s will smoke the Luxeon in short order. You could try a Pila 168s Li-ion cell which is a little closer voltage-wise for direct driving a Lux 1, but is still risky.

Proceed at your own risk.

Edited to add: The L1 uses a boost only circuit, which is located in the body tube. The head itself is "dumb" and only contains the Luxeon.

The L1 head is a dumb head ( no electronics ), you will smoke it on 2 X 123.

I kinda had the feeling that it's not a good idea. It's quite a bit brighter than the L1 set-up on high. It's really a shame that the KL1's couldn't be that much shorter. The L1 on the E2 sits better in my pocket because of it's lower profile. Ya can't have it all can ya?!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif
