1/2 D cell rechargeable batteries?

The mag-charger and some streamlite lights seem to use 1/2 D cells for their battery packs (if I got that right). I did a little bit of searching for these separate cells but couldn't find any? Does anybody know where to get these kinds (prefereably Europe)?
I am not looking for the Streamlite or Maglite battery pack, it's the single 1/2D cell I am after.

Thanks in advance,

Klaus.

Klaus - they are hard to get hold of - I had my local shop test-order a bunch of 3500ma NiMh 1/2D´s for me from W.E.D which worked out OK - there are also older style 2400 NiCds around (think so) - but even the specialised Batt-Mann - guy couldn´t locate any 1/2Ds for me when I asked him for.

They do make a nice 6V pack for a 3DMag though.

Regards

Klaus

BTW - and for those confused now - Klaus (K-T) and me (Klaus) and even the guy running Batt-Mann (Klaus) are NOT the same person

Thanks. I already checked Mr. Batt-Mann and couldn't find any of these on his web site. May I ask who or what is W.E.D.!
You read my mind about that 3D Mag.

It's my brother's and he didn't want me to put that MR16 inthere

so I suggested that maybe an upgrade to 6V might be good. I might also stuff 6AA's in his 2D and put another bulb inthere. Maybe then he is happy.
Or maybe someone else knows about these batteries, then I could do the 3D-Rech. upgrade and the 2D->6D upgrade.

Klaus,

W.E.T is just whats printed on the cell itself - I searched for them on the web but couldn´t find anything - so the only thing I can really tell you is that they DO exist.

why not get magcharger packs to tear apart for the cells?
i get the year old pulls from a local department and do that.
nice drop in for a 3 cell with 6v bulb too.

I just tore apart a M/C pack that was delivering only 1000 mAh. Turns out the only cell that wasn't up to spec was the first one with the nipple.

I'm ready to test either 3 @ 1/2 D cells plus a 3AA NiMh pack or 2 @ 1/2 D cells plus 2 @ 3AA packs in a Mag 3D and in a M/C. I will have to charge the battery elements separately for these configurations so I'm not sure it will be worth the hassle.

Snakebite: What wattage soldering iron is required to solder positive nipples on the cells?

some of these packs have the vent in the top center so i tin around it and sweat a pre tinned brass nut to it.
most are spotwelde on.
DO NOT cover or otherwise obstruct the vent.
nasty things can happen if overcharged ect if it does not vent when it needs to.

Snakebite:

Sweating the pre-tinned brass nut is one of those ideas that often didn't occur to me but is obviously a good idea once you hear it. This is a variation of "Heat the work, not the solder" that I hadn't considered.

Thanks also for the vent warning.
