Hi folks,
Everybody remembers 700L M*gs and happy to own one. Now it is time to jump to a flashlight powered by 6x168S Pilas.
I modified these D size M*gs to lenght of 2-1/2 D which is about 25mm shorter than standard 3D M*g. I also bored out 3 slots to accomodate 3 Pila 168S across in 2 story.
Each battery holder accepts 3 cells which are wired in parallel (3.7 volt, 4200mAh). Two of these battery holders will give you huge energy to power up flashlight (7.4 volts, 4200mAh) and this is assuming 1400mAh of cell.
AW's protected 17670 cells also work in this set up (7.4 volts, 4800mAh)
There are several bulb choice to use in this flashlight but I offer only few types of potted WA1111 and FM axial 6.6V, 3.3A
Potted FM axial bulbs are made by carley, exclusively for Fivemega and will give you very nice circular beam shape using LOP reflectors.
I have measured about 3.6 Amps using WA1111 (880 Lumens) for about 70 minutes continuos.
Excellent choice for police officers, rangers, security guards, campers, hunters and of course hot wire flashaholics. :D
Flashlight only $50
Chrome plated flashlight only $80
Type III flashlight only $70
Battery holder $32 each
Potted WA1111 $10 each
Potted/frosted CL1499 $10 each
Potted axial $12 each
Aluminum cammed LOP reflector $20 each
Boro lens $5 each (one per flashlight only)
Shipping $8 to States (Priority with delivery confirmation)
Shipping $18 to international address (regular air)
Insurance is extra ($2.20 In States) ($5 international) and I won't be responsible for loss or damage.
It is absolutely necessary to post your order here right after you paid and mention your CPF ID and detailed order in paypal.
For example: :paypal: for:
1 Red#23 2-1/2 D $50
2 battery holders $64

I won't be able to process your order if you pick invalid or already taken number or color.

FM, Can the batts holder center rod be lenghten to 150mm?

I'm thinkin that 3s x 3p of 17500 or 150s will fit in the barrel n run the 1185.

With 17500-1.1Ah = 50 - 55 min
With 150s -1.0Ah = 40 - 45 min

Can oso run the 1166 for SO MUCH, longer dare i say 100 minutes!!!!

Theres oso the possibility of loading in 123 in 4s x 3p for 12v, 3.9Ah !!

I think that maybe 5s of 123 can fit if the spring is changed! Run the 1166 with v dropped to 12.5v for 900lumens for nearly 2 hrs!!!

I tink i need help!!!

If not, where can i and how much $$$?

Why is everyone buying multiple bulbs? (Potted WA1111 )

No, it doesnt.

>

These are the sources for the Pila n protected 17670 li-ion cells
The famous CPF JS Burley but it seems that hes out of 168s batts:(
Bugoutgear
Aw's protected li-ion cells.

Design Values Rerated Values
Current ___3.35 0.000
Voltage ____6.0 7.2
CCT ___3,325 3,527 K
Lumens 464.95 880.117
Life _______100 11.2 hours

As cut n pasted from the WA site for the rerated values for the 1111. Notice that the 1111 is designed for 6v/3.35a but is being overdirven at 7.2v/3.6a . See the lumens figure? Thats nearly twice the designed output with a whiter beam ( thats the CCT K values ) Overdriven oso means that the life of the bulb is shortened to 11.2 hrs, therefore the extra bulbs. Theres also the chance of flashing the bulb bcus of the overdriving.

Will these holders accept 2x123 in place of a 168s? If so this light would pack 12v @ roughly 3.9ah, right?

I ask because that would bring the start-up price down a bit. Someone (like me) that had just caught the hotwire bug would have to fork out some $$ for 6x168s (>$144) or protected 17670 (>$80?). But a dozen 123's can be had for $12 + shipping. If it's a flashaholic "wow-factor" light, well, the long term benefits of rechargeable li-ions may not be realized. This assumes a decent PR-based bulb is available in the 10-11v range, of course.

Stonedog -

You can put 2x123's in the 3x168s holder...just need to tape the batts together where they join. There are few bulbs that will work with triple stacks of 123 batts...
Two that come to mind which work are the

WA 1274 which will drive nicely on 3 stacks of 3x123 in a 2D
WA 1185 which will drive nicely on 3 stacks of 4x123 in a 2.5D to 3D.

By driving the bulbs off 3 battery stacks, it cuts the amp load for each battery stack down to 1/3rd which increases runtime to well over an hour with the above mentioned bulbs.

The batteries charge fairly quickly. I've been using them a while and only use one charger, but then I don't have anything that takes 6 Pilas either. Sometimes you can find either Wolf-Eyes or Pila chargers for ~$25 they are the same so either will do.

I gotta have one....

The cheepest way to run these babies is by using bare li-ion cells. Just be careful n read up all u can about the safety n maintenance of bare li-ion cells.

AW has the charger n batts that u want.

Figure u can run this babay with the barecells in 2 ways

1 set 6 x 17670 + 3 chargers = $77.50 or
2 set 6 x 17670 + 1 charger = $79.50

Another configuration u need to look at is the 1185 bulb for 1,000+ lumens running with 3serial x 3 parallel 17500/1,100mah li-ion barecells.

DO NOT get the 18650 cells as they WILL NOT fit into the batts barrel.

Best to go with AW's protected cells, though, for a few dollars more. Of course, Pilas are *the best*, but expensive.

FM,

Do you have any plans for a 2 x 168s parallel battery holder. For some unknown reason I seem to have D size Maglites coming out of my ears. It would be nice to get some use out of them without having to get them bored.
