Uh-Oh. The FCC is taking over...

In this case I prefer three more stars...
Nice work! Got to build one for myself one of these days.
Can you remove the "star" pleaseeee......
That "virgin white" stuff you see in the picture is crystal clear epoxy mixed with alumina oxide powder.
The heatsink itself is epoxied to the head using AA epoxy.
As you can read in the title it's a Mag4C.
You must be blinded by those yellow stars I guess...
... sorry Isaac, couldn't resist...
To remove the head to get to the guts the wires to the leds have to be desoldered.
Thanks for the kind words guys.
Hey Benny, I like your new avatar!
Icarus how do you think 3 stars would run on 4C alkies w/ a fatman? Sort of like a regulated version Tr-Star Phazer from Elektrolumens. I've heard good things about it, and the alkalines seem to run well in it.
EDIT: Except that the alkalines would be constantly pumping 700mA for example. Where without the fatman it would just follow a regular alkaline discharge curve right. I guess now that I think about it NiMh would be better...
I want to do a Tri-Lux mod and at first I was going to use a 2D with 6AA NiMh, but I don't like to bother with rechargables. I like the common availablity of Alaklines. Then I remembered about the Phazer, it runs 3 LED's on 4C Cells. I'm hoping to mimic that setup.

I just started playing with exactly this concept 4Cs in a 3D though. right about 6 to 6.5V is where the fatman will put out full power (1A) into 3 Jbin emitters.. so the 6pack is the way to go... but i would definitely install the low-volt protection so it shuts down at 6V.. can be done with a simple potentiometer i could figure out the values for you. i'm doing a similar build myself.
I wanted to be able to run 3 lux3 from 4Cs in a 3D but i'm only getting like 3000lux and it should be more like 4500+... so i'm going to re-work it to use 6AAs in a fivemega holder.
I've designed a new holder that will be more cost-effective than the FM holders but they won't be developed 'til middle of fall.. aiming to sell them for $20.. designed to work with 6AAs or 9AAs.. might be like $2 dif in price for the two.. like 18/20.
I'm going to do a simple DD setup (slightly resistored) with 3 C cells in a 2D M*g. I was going to use a fatman and get a 4C M*g, but I'm going to hold off any costly mods until the K2 comes out. This setup only cost me about $60.
The LED's are on their way...
Thanks for the info Icarus. I will get NiMh for this mod.
instead of a resistor solution you could put in an LDO and get better efficiency and more even light output.. http://ldo.rouse.com will get you to the cpf thread .. parts are like $2.
