I am not the ultra expert either, but for HIGH DRAIN applications, Lithiums work better, but how much better is debatable.

The best price and performance on batteries seems to be Rayovac Maximum Plus, and Costco. I never have used Costco, so I can't comment, but I really like those Rayovac! Even without cost as a factor, for most applications, I would prefer the Rayovac max plus to any other battery, with the exception of Lithiums for certain lights.

From Roy's runtime graphs: Lithium AA for the AA size. Also depends on the light in question. Sometimes Titaniums don't last as long as regular Alkalines.

Another factor to consider, is what type the light is designed for. E2 Lithium AA has a before load voltage of 1.83 volts. So, if the light can't handle the higher voltage, it can blow the LED(s). Some LED lights are optimized for Lithium AAs, like the CMG Reactor and the Princeton Tec LED modules for certain flashlights and headlamps.

I am certain that others will have better data than I do.
