UCL LDF at flashlightlens. For the McR-20 you want the 22.8 for the ARC4.

I don't know enough to comment, so this is opinion/speculation, but I personally wouldn't try to run more than two LUXVs to spec off that power supply in your situation - poor runtime? A possibility to consider if you like the LuxV is a pair of McR-27s driven at ~400mA, one with LDF, one clear (maybe mounted vertically?) The 29.3mm for the PM6 should fit, but I haven't tried it yet. You could have a off-low(LDF)-both switch, just like high and low beams on a car

What's the difference between the Arc4LDF and the LBLDF, in that size (22.8mm)?

As far as driving the LuxV's off that battery, I should be able to get about 3 hours run time, since if I use all 3 LuxV's in series (I'm only pulling spec. current once), the same current is going through all the Lux's (series), but the efficiency will not be 100%, going from 11.1V to 20.4V that will be needed for the Vf of 3 LuxV's in series... If I drive spec., 700mA, I'm thinking somewhere around 1A to 1.25A will be the real current consumed...but I could be wrong.

Beats me I just know the Arc4 fits. Looks like the LongBow comes with some o-rings.

The only difference is the Longbow comes with an o-ring.

The 22.8 Longbow does come with an O-ring. The o-ring is needed because the UCL is much thicker than the stock plastic lens. The supplied o-ring is thinner to allow for the thinker UCL lens.

I am looking for a reflector to be used with a LuxIII. I want the beam to be something similer to that of the Nuwai Q-III. Would a McR-18 provide this?

nemul, have you used a spacer in the setup? I am asking, sinse my experiense with a LuxV and a McR-20 gives a gigant doughnut hole. Are you using one of the new LuxV with round heat sink slug?

    Second PrebKlok's question!
    Beam looks surprisingly good!
    Thanx for doing the work!

yes this is a new LuxV with stock McR-18(pictured). I filed down the bottom of the McR-18 so the low die would sit or into the reflector, while this tighten the hotspot theres a very slight doughnut hole now. i think the new LuxV(low die) with the McR-18 non-joker is almost like pre-spaced...

Very interesting. I plan on doing some beamshot comparisons myself with some of Don's reflectors, and a WWOT LuxV. The SS hasn't got any of this bin in the Star configuration, so I'm waiting on that. I would go with just the emitter, but I think alightment in a 3 Lux light would be difficult, without the screw holes for mounting the stars...at least, for my plans.

I've got some 18, 20, and 19mm reflectors that I'm going to try with it. I will probably just buy a puck power supply for beam testing comparison, as my regulator is not designed yet.

Nemul - Thank you for that beam shot of the 18 and a Lux V. That is extremely useful information, and a surprisingly nice beam.

What is the bin code on that LuxV, and what current are you running it at?

    Cool Nemul!

I recently paired a 5W "joker"with the standard McR-20 and found that it too seems to be enough drop in the image, relative to the focal point of the reflector, to remove the donut. I personally prefer this drop even with the LuxIII Joker as it opens the spot and puts more light into the corona as well with a reduction in sharp contrast between spot and corona. Throw and lux readings drop as expected.

I looked at McR-8. It is very charming!!!
Do they form a line in a Sandwich shoppe in the near future?

    Hi Belyo,
Yes, I got some pre-production samples to see if they had any merit and I have ordered some of these. They should be coming in at the end of Jan so look to the shoppe in Feb. With so many small SMD LED's out and on the way, I wanted a small reflector that might do a reasonable job in a tight flood with them. My favorite 3mm Nichia, the 312 was not upgraded with the new higher flux dies. Nichia only upgraded the 300 and the 310. The 300 is a tight and narrow beam with the best and sharpest image of the die with all its shortcomings and artifacts, I have seen!!! This LED must be popular solely on its "numbers"!!

Now the 310 has too wide of a viewing angle for a single source flashlight, IMHO but I figured that coupling it with a reflector, you might get the best of both worlds since there is clean light coming directly out and a reflector to catch the off axis light and direct it into a choked down flood. You take a loss in efficiency but the beam you do get is pretty nice for a little guy.

Coupled with the Rigel, you also loose some photons but again the beam is real useful to my way of thinking. With Wayne's tuna converter, .8 and 8 lumens in a single little light is real cool!

The H3 vials are well protected yet exposed to get their photons out!

    The McR-8 reflector:

Don, next time you are messing around with your drawings, would you mind adding this one to your linked index of pdf files for the other McR-XX series.
Also, I am wondering if this one is derived from the McR-19 curve. Thx

    Hi Doug,

I added PDF's for the McR-8 in inch and metric dimensions to the reflector directory. This reflector as with the McR-19 has its focal point aft and outside of the reflector but it has a significantly shorter focal length than the 19.

I edit this post after don's post below, which makes his post not actually referring to this post as it stands now.

I divided the parabolic reflectors into four groups after focal length:

1: Pelican reflector, modified pelican reflector, McR27, McR38 and McR45 share the longest focal distance.

2: McR16,18, 20 and 27L have the second longest focal distance.

3: McR19 has the second shortest focal distance.

4: McR8 is a has the shortest focal distance.

McR19 Flood is a cone like the man says below.

Below is all I decided to keep from the original post:
Are the formula(s) and focal distances secret?

/OT/ Do the IMS17, 20 and 27 use the same focal distance (which is?) and formula? Are they true parabolas?
Same question for the mag solitair, AAA, AA and C/D? /OT/

    1) correct
    2) parabolic curves; not modified parabola (aside from orange peel which is indeed a modification.
    3) McR-19 is parabolic with short focal length and image behind rear of reflector. McR-19 flood is not parabolic; straight taper and straight sections
    4) correct

focal lengths are recipie I choose not to share.

    no idea on other reflectors
