    Default (CLOSED) FM 3.5" M*g 'C' & 'D' head by Fivemega

    Hi folks,
Here are what you asked for.
3.5" head and reflector machined from one piece hi grade aluminum bar. There is no replaceable reflector. Advantages are:
    1- Less cost.
    2- Light weight.
3- Maximum heat transfering. There in no air gap between body and reflector. Fins are directly attached to cammed reflector.
3- Easily switchable from M*g D to M*g C and both adapters come with it.
I have made this proto sample and tested.
Bulb opening is 10mm and this will be usable with all WA and 35W Philips bulbs.
Reflector is cammed and can be used with Hi-temp Bi-pin socket for easy beam adjustment from spot to flood.
It comes everything needed including 2 adapters (one for D and one for C), bezel, 2 Orings and Hi temp Boro lens installed and ready to use.
This prepayment thread is open now and no part is available for immediate delivery. Thread will be closed for payment by 11.59PM December 31 2005 PST (please check post #84)
No payment will be accepted after that point and production will start early January 2006
Complete processing will take at least 3 months. Machining, hand polishing in and out, outside finishing, reflector metalizing and assembling.
Delivery will be started in order payment was received and destination.
It can be ordered in chrome plated finish or grey HA type III and reflector can be ordered in SMO mirrorized (for maximum throw) or light stippled (for softer beam shape) only.
This is a go project regardless of interest number.
    Price:
    HA type III $190
    Chrome plated $230
    Shipping:
    All 50 States $10
    Internationaly $18
Your order will be considered if full payment received in one paypal.
Please do not combine with any other product I currently offer.
You will need to post your order here and in paypal including your CPF handle and detail of your order.
    Example:
for HA III 3.5" head with SMO reflector.
    Paypal to: DO NOT PAY
Sorry, I do not accept any other type of payment.
    Any comment welcome.

    FM,

    Beautiful piece of engineering !

Wish I could justify one of these...

Any plans on resurrecting the 3" heads in Mag Black?

What is the weight of these reflectors?
How much is the throw improved compared to the 3" head?
Will additional lenses be available for sale?
Can I have one done with a larger bulb opening (I want to use it with a 13.5mm bulb, so 15mm opening sounds right)?

Really neat with the body adapters, you never cease to amaze.

Another question (for ANYONE in reading this thread):

Will this new head work with (heresy: Kiu's C and D bi pin adapters)?

And for FM: BEAMSHOTS with any lamps????

Are you at liberty to COUNT how many FM creations you have?

    Fivemega

but for this performant reflector is needed a performant bulb, therefore like

Lurveleven "Can I have one done with a larger bulb opening (I want to use

it with a 13.5mm bulb, so 15mm opening sounds right)?"

and Vontech "Will this new head work with (heresy: Kiu's C and D bi pin

    adapters)?"

IMHO for a very amazing light these two features are

    necessary

    Please reserve....

    1 x HA type III 3.5" Head w/SMO reflector

    Shipping

    I will paypal ASAP.

    Questions

    1) Will this new head work with the KIU adapter installed in the M*g?

    2) Will this new head dissapate heat better than the FM3V?

    3) Are you doing HA "dark" (ala 2.5D) or HA "light" (ala FM3V)?

    4) How much will throw be comprimised for the sake of diffusion of the beam?

    5) What is the difference in weight between the 3.5" and 3"?

    6) Since the reflector is built in to the head and cannot be removed, if we (unintentionally) smoke/fog the reflector or a bulb blows up or something and messes it up, are we screwed completely and out potentially $230 (chrome) or can the reflector be "re-finished" to like new condition for a nominal charge? Will that also hold true for the light stipple?

Thanks for the answers in advance.

Man, that light stipple reflector sound good too.... hmmmm decisions/decisions.. Would love to see a shot of both reflectors in use to really see how diffused the output is with the light stipple.

In a 3.5 inch reflector, should you really even be worried about spreading the beam vs. "reach out to the next county" type throw?

    Thanks.

    Holy Smokes!

Oh, this is going to hurt.

One request, please <don't> make any more chrome 1.5 D cell lights between now and the time these are released. I'll never be able to resist and there is Christmas after all. I've got to have some $$ for presents.

WOW! Lots of good questions. I'd love to get one of these but let's check out some beam shots. A stippled chrome one is what I think I'd prefer for my USL, which I'd have to get chromed! Can I send it in? :

Maybe, maybe not. It depends on whether the resulting opening would be big enough for the Osram lamps. Besides, I couldn't bring myself to deface one of these beauties!

I am going to step out on a limb here, but since there are being produced from scratch, couldn't FM make one with a small hole (WA type bulbs) and one with a large hole (Osram, Axial, Pelican type bulbs). If they were both made camless, then the KIU socket would work with the small hole as well as the large hole.

Like I said, I am out on a thin limb. I have never manufactured anything so I really am speaking out of turn since I don't know everything that maybe involved for the design change and whether or not enough people warrant such a change.

Or FM could say he will do it his way and those that don't like it...tough..don't buy it!!

The KIU socket is a big piece for a couple so far and I think the solution there is to be camless. But who knows.

    FM? Too early for feedback/thoughts?

The Kiu bulb holder works with cammed reflectors. I just cracked one open to check.
