Quark 123(2) Turbo observations, Pics & indoor/outdoor beamshots

Hi,
I thought I would post some comments, pics and beamshots of my new 4Sevens Quark Turbo incase someone was on the fence about ordering one. I wanted a Quark light after reading all the reviews about them (crazy things like always getting a CENTERED LED! and great beams..not to mention .2Lumens low output) and when the Turbo came out with the XP-G R5 led in it, I really had no choice but to buy one.

When the light arrived, the first thing that amazed me was the packaging. I have spent hundreds of $$$ more on lights that were not presented as well as this light. Great job 4Sevens!

For some reason, I was expecting the light to be bigger, I was hapilly suprised to see it is more SF 6p sized. Shown next to a NiteCore EZ123 and Fenix PD30

Here is the crazy centered led thing I was talking about. I wish more manufactures could figure this out!

I can't normally do this photo with a light. Here is a picture of the light on moonlight mode at .2 lumens

One nice thing about the XP-G led is that Even with a smooth reflector, the beam is smooth and has NO Cree Rings

The light comes with these levels of output: (copied from 4Sevens site)

Typical Output Levels and Runtimes + (LED drive current)

Moonlight: 0.2 lumens for 30 days, (1ma)
Low: 4 lumens for 5 days (10ma)
Medium: 22 lumens for 20 hours (50ma)
High: 85 lumens for 4.5 hours (250ma)
Max: 230 lumens for 1.8 hours (990ma)
Strobe: 230 lumens for 3 hours
Beacon: 0-230 lumens pulse for 23 hours

.2 is a little low for me... but even low is much dimmer than most lights 10-15 lumens on low. Still good for navigating the house at night with others sleeping. Here is a Pic of the low of the Quark vs. the Fenix PD30

There is still a pretty bright moon out, so I could not do good long beamshots, but here are 3 at 8 yards with a Fenix PD30+ (r2) , the Quark Turbo , and the Streamlight Stinger HP Led to give you a general idea of the beams. 1" f/2.8 iso 64 wb daylight

So those are my pics. Overall, I am Highly Impressed with the 4Sevens Quark Turbo and the XP-G R5 led. The beam is flawless, the Light has enough Lego options to make a 6p sit up and take notice, It can use rechargables and a 18650 tube is availible. It has 30 days solid runtime availible if needed, and is Very Bright for its size on max with 230 OTF lumens. My cheap digicam does not pick it up well, but it is easilly brighter than the Fenix wth the R2 led.

I highly recomend this light, and I am sure 4Sevens will see a good chunk of my money in the future as more of these lights are released.

Hey thanks for the pics I'm still on fence about the Turbo but I'm sure I will eventually get one. In the mean time I'm really liking my PD30+, especially the beam tint.

What I really want to know about the Turbo is how is throw when compared to a T100C2 or TK11 R2, MG Mini II R2 with turbo head. Something in those size range's.

thanks for the post! I have an AA neutral Quark, a neutral CR123 Quark and a titanium CR123 on the way. seeing those high output throwier turbo heads has led to some math: new AA2 Quark turbo around $75 buying the tailcap, AA tube and head is about $79. I have a 2 AA tube but think I might get an entire new 2 AA turbo Quark!

Does your Quark turbo have any donut hole effect in the hotspot? Mine has a slight donut.

How pocketable is the turbo 123-2?

I have been pocket carrying a P3D Q5 for years now, and am hesitant to get this light because of the size. I definitely like the specs for it, but just not sure how well it would work in a pocket situation.

The length seems to be ok, but how about the diameter? It doesn't seem to be too much larger, but I just don't know about when it is put in a pocket.

How do you plan on carrying the light?

Yeah, it's certainly improved since the old p3d. Beam color is beautiful compared to the R5. Quark's xp-E is nicely tinted also, and very throwy for such a compact head.

Turbo head sure looks neat though. Would love to see the throw with neutral XPE!

Wow it looks like there's not much spill at all for this XP-G light.

Woodrow, how many lumens is the Stinger LED Hp rated at (emitter/otf spec)?

Thanks for th comments all. I am really impressed with the light. As to the questions:

sfca, spill is bright...but it is wider than the Fenix, so my digicam did not show it as well, just as the Streamlight has the tightest most concentrated...and therefore brightest spill. The New Streamlight HP led is rated for 200L out the front, and I honestly believe it is under rated. It is driven hot.

gnef, pocketability is about the same as a 6p with a clip. I would consider it more of a jacket pocket light.

kyhunter1, mine does not have the donut hole, and I think mine is a little cooler tint than some...no green. I really like the Fenix's R2 tint the best of all my lights, but the Quark has the better beam... unless you are looking for throw...then I have not had anything that touches the Stinger....I am really impressed by it.

jhc37013, I think the TK11 etc would still out throw it... the Quark's beam is closer to a E2DL but with a slightly smaller spot and brighter spill....and a totally smooth beam.

Crenshaw...your right, Fenix did a really nice job with the PD30+

The last email response was earlier September, after that in the latter part of the month I'm not sure what happened to my emails.
