Default Hummers & LEDs

Read an article in this weeks paper about the Winter Warfare Center at Ft Greely, Alaska. One of the projects they are working on was placing high power LEDs on Hummers for uses in winter conditions. It said that LEDs cut through snow better than standard lights. Looks like someone else (Uncle Sugar) is modding LEDs. Wonder what they will come up with?

As was mentioned in a thread I posted earlier on the same subject, using these in Alaska cold is one thing. The article goes on to mention that when used in the heat, some sort of cooling will be needed. I wonder if the saved power consumption, and longevity of the lights will be offset by the derived cooling system.

Using LEDs in extreme cold makes perfect sense. They get way more efficient as temperature drops.

Try this one with photos:

For example, their high beams failed in hot weather at test sites in Panama and near Carson City, Nev.

"It's a thermal-related component and a very easily corrected problem," Snyder said. "Their performance in Alaska has been positive. I'm very, very pleased with the progress of the development of this lamp."
