Default foglight question

How can you tell which is the positive lead and the negative lead when working with automotive bulbs? I have a H11 based foglight but I don't have the plug to connect to the bulb. I'm not real sure that's something I can buy at wal-mart or autozone either. Also, am I able to use an H9 bulb in place of the H11?

If it's an incandescent bulb, no need to worry about polarity.

Yeah, I decided to test it out last night. Hooked a wire to the positive and a wire to the negative, worked both ways. Now the biggest problem I'm facing is finding a H11 socket. I've checked Wal-Mart and Autozone, and while they actually did have sockets, neither of them carry an H11, or for that matter, an H11 bulb. I've been looking online and I can't find a socket anywhere. I guess I'll have to just try the Ford dealership and pay an outragous amount.

If this H-11 fitting is unique to Ford, and the dealer wants $50.00/each for them, try a junk yard.

Not unique to Ford, but it's not a widely popular bulb currently. Not sure where exactly you got $50 though. The only place online I did find that you can buy the connectors is from Hoen. They want $19 for the connectors, but they wont let you buy just the connector, you also have to buy the $49 bulbs with them.
