Sick2 Are You Sick of All the Polls Poll

Are we getting polled to death or does everyone here love polls?

Where's the "it depends on who's making them" option?

No, in all seriousness, there are a few good polls... but a lot of them are a waste of time.

Shrug Re: Are You Sick of All the Polls Poll

I am tired of say 95 percent of them. (Give or take that 3 percent error rate like they do on TV)

I'm trying to figure out how to edit the poll as carrot suggested but it keeps starting a new one

Well, if anyone can tell me how to edit the poll I'm all ears, looks like once you set the number and the questions they can not be changed as far as I can see

As Carrot already alluded to; "it depends" on the poll—That's all.

So how do I see who voted and what they voted? Obviously many people can vote but not post in the thread, any way to see the results other than just the bar graph at the top?

In all seriousness, I think each of the poll itself is pretty entertaining, but combine a bunch of them and it starts to get tiresome pretty quickly.

a once in a while poll (that means once in a month, approx) is good. Once a day poll? that is crossing the line

I only like the ones with the "Let's get him" option.

Actually I usually find that I don't like any of the choices, but they don't bother me. Sometimes I get a laugh out of them

Thumbs up Re: Are You Sick of All the Polls Poll

Making a good poll takes a lot of work. And practice. I like seeing a poll that actually provides good data and seems well thought out. There's a lot of knowledge here, and it's interesting to see what direction a poll will take. Polls about future events are interesting too. A poll of a small group can often predict the direction a larger group will take. It can also quickly and easily provide information that one would need.

My response would have been "I like seeing good polls".

The bad part about polls on CPF is that they don't bump posts. The user reads the post, votes on the poll and then goes on to another thread. A really good poll will be lost in the CPF history because not enough people posted responses. Even bumping the posts wouldn't be so bad, because eventually all the regular users will have voted and the threads will disappear.

I put 'poll' in my titles when they have polls, so they're searchable.

Here's and old poll that survived the transition (sort of): Posts with polls

What if the mods disabled the polls because 62.5% of you said you hated them? I have a feeling 5 people who posted are the 'either way' camp.
Check out my inova x1 poll:

Actually, the question presented here has much more profund implications. Sadly, I have seen CPF a sharp decline in technical posts (mod recipes, custom lights, electronics discussions, experimenting with circuits, etc.) and an increase in "what light should I buy, what accessories go with it, and where to get the cheapest price?" type of threads. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but...

...nevermind. [/quasi-rant]

true, if these are honest requests for suggestions/help, then they are certainly alright and more than welcome, but there have been quite a few too many frivolous posts that ask "vs." questions for the heck of it which tend to obscure the more "honest" requests for help. that's my only beef with some of the posts as of late. i'm sure most of the thread starters don't have evil intents, but perhaps don't realize that everything really has a reasonable limit. but then again, what can you really say, when some of these so-called 'frivolous' posts have high view & respond rates? not so frivolous any more is it? certainly a very fuzzy, fudgy issue. i think i'll go have some ice cream.

I think I have done about 2 polls. I only like to do them if there is a need for information. Polls for the sake of polling seems fruitless. Mine were about M@G-LED lights, batteries. I think polls inquiring about trends in lights, batteries and tech data are OK. The ones about "Did this ever happen to you?" stuff can go. I think polls should offer at least some new information to the users here in order to be justified.
By the Way, Who is this guy Tron3 anyway?

It seems that only 1/2 of the users hate the polls so far.
