Default How bright is your room?

Some friends of mine came over and one of them had a good digital camera so I thought I would do a comparison.

I have three different types of light in my living room.

1. 5*20 W IKEA MR16 halogen. A bit underdriven using an electronic transformer so I would guess 1200 lumen here

2. 35 W metal halide. Consists of a Philips Mastercolor 35W/830 in a crappy IKEA fixture made for 60 W incans but fully modifiable, running from a Philips PrimaVision electronic ballast. Out of 3000 bulb lumen I would guess a healthy 1000 is stopped in the fixture so 2000 lumen here.

3. A home made "Christmas tree string light", but not the one you expect to find in some sane persons tree around Christmas. This one is made from 14 Osram Halostar IRC, 12 V 50 W, each pumping out 1250 lumen. The thing is that we have 230 V in our sockets here so I thought 14 of them in series would be a nice thing. That means over 50 klumen of light.

Right, the pictures:

First of, my room, 5*20 W halogen lamps. (sorry about the mess)
1/20 second, f 5.6

Second, my room, 14 * 50 W overdriven IRC halogen lamps.
1/20 second, f 5.6

If we instead take a look from the street outside we can see the following:

Ambient light from the rest of my apartment.
1/10 second, f 3.5

5 * 20 W halogen.

35 W metal halide.

Oh, and if anyone wounder what that big red thing is, it's just my Advent candlestick...

What are you running at your place?

Pretty bright in my room I guess.

On the ceiling; two 20 watt 2 foot flourescent fixtures running electronic ballasts (one from a Chinese CFL; the other is a Lights of America) and GE Chroma 50 tubes. Great for general lighting.

A 13 watt PL compact flourescent tube in a desk lamp for homework and projects.

A Philips Earthlight Dimmable CFL in a table lamp next to the bed for reading (It's also on a dimmer switch)

Then there's the 35 watt Philips D2R automotive HID light and a Lexus ballast assembly in a clamp light reflector on top of my bookshelf if I need a lot of light. It normally shines across the room onto the wall and slightly upwards but I sometimes point it directly at my worktable if I'm doing electronics project or soldering.

With all the lights turned on, it's almost way too bright.

Ceiling Flourescents on only

Only my desklamp

Table Lamp only

Ceiling, Desk, and table lamp

HID only

HID on the wall

At the "receiving" end

All lights on

No no! There is no such thing as too bright.

Nice pictures!
