Lightuser:

Back in March I acquired 7 DB4AA's at an Office Depot special (Energizer ships them without warning to Office Depot from time to time and Office Depot dumps them on special.)

I called 6 or 7 San Diego stores to find these 7 units at three stores.

Most or all of them have had the plastic insulators removed from the head spring battery contacts to permit the batteries to be run in serial and to accommodate the wider & shorter positive nipple of a 123 cell. All of them have had their reflector bulb apertures overbored. Several of them have had their AA sized battery spacer inserts removed to permit use of 123 batteries and rechargeable A cells.

I think I'll be willing to part with a few of these if specific existing mod configurations are acceptable to you. I'm really only interested in keeping a couple that I've loaded with 6 serial / parallel 123 cells and an overdriven W/A 6.3 V 1.92 A design bulb that generates > 420 L.

The only thing that might persuade me to keep them is if I like the effect of running either W/A 4.8 V 1.1 A or W/A 4.8 V 1.9 A bulbs in them. (I'd rather run the W/A 4.2 V 0.70 A bulb from the DB6AA that is currently in several of the DB4AA's with NiMHs in my DB4AAA's with 750 mAh NiMH's.)

The other alternative would be to run a higher voltage bulb with 6 serial 2/3 A rechargeable NiMH's, but I already have too many different sizes of batteries to manage efficiently.

I should find out what the new bulbs will do after receipt of my W/A bulb order scheduled for 6/19 shipment.

I'll ship for $10 @ plus priority post costs. One or Two should cost $4.95 and more will probably cost more.

Lemlux, thanks I'll give it a day or two and see if any new ones turn up. If not, I'll get back to you on one. I kind of need a fresh one as I'm not sure what I am going to do with it yet. Might still be calling tho.

Understood and appreciated. Uncertainty and what-if musings constitute much of the fun of being a flashaholic.

I dunno if this helps, but I was at my local hardware store last Wednesday, and they had a couple of the 6AA DBs in stock. If anyone's really interested, I'll drop by and check if they're still there and what kind of $$ they're asking.
