if you can get to where you see the picture in it's full size in your browser window, just right click on the picture and go down to the bottom where it says properties. when the properties box comes up, double click on the Location that starts with http://www......
once the address is highlighted right click on it and select copy. Then when you post in CPF, click on the add picture icon and right click then paste the address into that.
It's really intuitive and simpler than it sounds.

here are the steps
open the picture that you want to link
right click to see the properties of the picture itself and copy the link
make a post in CPF (advanced reply only) and click on the picture this icon. Then paste the link into that bar and you're done.

carbine15, I believed that is called 'hotlinking' - you won't get very far with that here at CPF.

FiftyCalAl, I don't use Yahoo.com so I can't help you with that but I can tell you a couple ways to post pictures if that's what you're trying to do.

To post pictures without hotlinking, you need to have a host of your own and link from that host. There's two sites that I used; www.photobucket.com and www.imageshack.us

Here's the quick steps:

make an account at http://photobucket.com/
upload pictures to it.
under each picture, you'll see three links to copy from
for posting the image here at CPF, copy the third one (the ones with [IMG] )
paste it in your writing area.

That's it. Good way to manage your pictures, too. This is my preferred method.

For an even simpler method:

upload your pictures at http://www.imageshack.us/ and copy the [IMG] link and paste that link here. No need for making your own accounts at this site even though this option is available.

Good lucks!

I'ts not hotlinking if you upload the picture yourself to a hosting site (which he has demonstrated he is able to do).

Unless I don't know what I'm talking about and I've never hosted a picture that wasn't hotlinked and never been called on it.

Oh I see... so yahoo has its own image hosting as well? In that case, it should be all right.

Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Hey there LightMania.

Regarding "For posting the image here at CPF, copy the third one (the ones with [IMG] ) paste it in your writing area. "

I compressed a sample photo to about 30k size and tried to copy/paste it into the reply window but the wndow did not accept a "paste" action. My "Posting Rules" box says:

You may post new threads
You may post replies
You may not post attachments
You may edit your posts

Do I need some special authority to post a picture? If so, how do I get it? Once in a while I've been asked by other members for a photo; and once in a while I'd just like to post one.

Thanks,

W.

Hi wmirag,

If you can post a thread, you can post pictures. Nothing special or anything. Just a little understanding in what to type in your writing area.

First, may I direct your attention to that same "Posting Rules" box you just mentioned and look right under the "You may edit your posts" sentence. Then click on the "vB code is On" link and in there, you'll see all the codes you can do with your threads. This is always there and it's a good reference page. (you can also click on [IMG] in that same box - it'll take you to the same section that I was talking about)

If you look for the 'Images' section, you'll see the codes it required to post pictures and the examples under that. (hint: click on each of the blue light bulbs to see the differences).

Secondly, I am not sure where you are tripping up in your attempts but maybe there is a mistake in the copy/paste information somewhere? You need the . No spaces.

carbine15's method does the same thing to what I suggested; clicking on a button and paste your url there instead of entering the url in the writing area by hand.

Just make sure the images is coming from your own host.

Hope this help some!

you're trying to use the html codes... skip that altogether and just put in that url link inside this . No spaces.

YOu need to host your picture on a hosting site like imageshack or photobucket first.

Apparently I'm thick-headed. Can one of you fella's set me straight?

I'm on Windows XP. The file I want to test post is on my C disk as:

C/Documents and Settings/All Users/Documents/My Pictures/Sample Pictures/Compressed Water lilies.jpg

What, exactly, should I do to post it in this thread?

Sorry for being so dumb.

Thanks Carbine15.

When LightMania said:
"Just make sure the images is coming from your own host",
I got the impression that I could simply upload a picture from my macine directly to the site.

What you are saying is that the only "transfer" I can do is a transfer of a URL which points to *another* site - which site actually contains the photos. Correct?

The "other site" has to be a pic hosting site, such as your own webspace or Imageshack etc.

Since this is a practice posting thread, and all information needed is in here I'm gonna close it.
