Default A architect friend sent me this...

Link to a company doing led lighting targeted at the medical industry. She said they were around $1000 a pop.

In a hospital or old peoples home with 1000s of downlights and law enforcements to keep all lights burning all day long under all circumstances, it could easily pay out because the "ladder ape" who usually runs around once a day to change broken lamps is not necessary (and less energy consumption is a nice side effect).

I think they use LEDs to see what they are doing in certain kinds of surgery.
I can imagine all sorts of expensive requirements on such lights (sterilizable,
absolutly NO electrical leakage, certified by a bunch of gov't agencies...).

They are billing this as being a specialty product intended for use around extreme magnetic fields, such as one finds near MRI machines. A fixture that had ferrous materials in it would tear loose from the wall and fly into the machine the first time they turned it on.
