Default Best way to charactize beams

Light Gurus,

I am a newbie to all of this light stuff (who would have thought flashlights could be so fascinating).

I recently starting riding a bike offroad at night and am totally hooked on it. In fact I now do it every night.

I would like to start a project where I would characterize the beams of many different bike lights using all existing technologies(HID, halogen & LED). I like the beam characterizations that have been performed by the ledmuseum and am considering a prometric system similar to what they use. Not sure of the cost (I have written the manufacturer but have not gotten a response).

I also like the stuff that is done here:

I am curious as to people ideas on this as to how I should try to measure and characterize the beams. I would 'entertain' options up to about $2k.

Gary

Perhaps one of the reasons why no one has responded to your inquiry is because your thread might be happier in the Transportation --> Bicycle Sub-forum. I bet if a mod were kind enough to move it there, a lot more people with a similar interest to yours (categorizing bike light beam profiles) would respond.

Good luck with your project!
