Thinking Dark in New York City?

Does anyone know of a suitably large, dark, (safe?) place in the five boroughs to exercise lights? Small apartments aren't much fun, and its surprisingly difficult to find a dark street.

haha i have the same problem here in boston, and ive come to realize that too many of my hobbies (flashlights, astrophotography, mountain biking, etc.) make absolutely no sense in the city. luckily i work past midnight and get to rock my homemade bikelights on the ride home, but even the bikepath is lit by streetlamps

Is it still dark at 5PM? Woodlawn cemetery closes at 5PM.
