Default Anyone know anything about this bulb ?

This odd bulb had been around my parents place on a shelf for who knows how long. I think it came in a box of junk from a garage sale. The top where the bulb information is printed is smeared and missing the right side of the stamp.
I can get the following from it
Quote:
650W 120V
DURO-???
Code ??????
5000 user hrs
Still unsure what I am going to do with this thing... its rather large.

I have an old GE lamp catalog. It lists a similar lamp. It's rated 620W, 120V, 11,200 lumens. It's described as an 'airport' lamp.

Hmm, may be worth firing this up. May be a little bright for a reading light though ..

Cuz' it wouldn't fit a standard (Edison-type) socket.

They buy boxes of items from garage sales and auctions. Often there is only a few items you want out of it the rest is sold or disposed of and sometimes there are odd ball items that stick around. This was one of them. Its really the only place it could have come from.

It's probably for an aircraft obstruction beacon; you know, the flashing red lights you see on radio/tv transmitter antennas.

Duro Test Lighting makes a lot of specialty "bulbs" for industrial use. This bulb would likely belong in their "code beacon" series of products.
