2D Maglite as a P7 bikelight

Just made some pictures of my finished bikelight made out of a 2D Malgite. I'm using 'Der Wichtel's driver board and a P7 CSXOI.

I like the idea, but I would worry a bit about the water resistance of the Mag housing and switch.

That's what I thought too. I think the weakest part regarding the water resistance will be the switch. The other parts should have a quite good rain resistance.

I am pretty sure the Mag is water"proof"? I just disassembled mine, and there are O-rings at all interfaces and I am sure the switch is proof too?

Great idea, I basically did the same thing but with a triple p4 setup instead. I havent started playing with the P7s yet.

My first one was just like the one you are describing and it gets heavy with the orginal clickie.

Looks very good. Do you have also pictures of your first Maglite bikelight?
One problem I have is that the driver board I want to use is quite big and I also want to use a PWM dimmer, so I need some space. The driver board and the PWM dimmer I use are from 'Der Wichtel'. Before that driver board I had two from KD and both didn't work . I think with the right mount the weight won't be a problem.

One question: What plug and cable did you use?

The weight isnt too bad if its centered on top of the head and your helmet is somewhat snug. Personally is a bit much considering how much weight i saved with my second one.

What dia is that driver board?

That's exactly how I imagined it. I want to mount it on the bike bar so I only need a good mount.

I don't know the exact diameter. It's about 1mm smaller than the inner diameter of teh Maglite.

I can vouch for the water resistance of D-Mags. A few years ago, I was at boyscout camp, and myself and several of my troop-mates were heading into the woods for our "wilderness survival" overnight trip. As we were crossing the bridge to get to the other side of the bridge (mind you, we're in the middle of the mountains, at night, being guided by my mini mag with a nite-ize drop in; it was dark) we hear a speluuuunnnkkk, shortly followed by an "oh no!" What turned out to have happened was these two guys were fishing, and one was holding a 4-D mag over the water to shine the fish. Well, he had dropped it. Underneath the bridge, the water is about 15 feet deep. Well, his mag light was shining up at us from the bottom, still running. Apparently, the air trapped in the head was enough to make the head point up.

Long-windedness over now... But, yeah, they're pretty waterproof.

Oh, yeah... They managed to get it out by about midnight, from what I heard, it was still running, so it was easier to find, but the kid who went to get it, was caught by a counselor, and had to go home (we're not allowed to swim in that part of the lake).

So it's time to upgrade my bike light .

First it will get anodized in black and then it will get the new 4-mode driver from 'Der Wichtel'. One question regarding the anodizing. Do I have to get off the black color of the Maglite before giving it to anodizing?

if you need more output, you need this:

3 ssc p7
1 Der Witchel kit (heatsink & reflectors)
1 hipflex from taskled
1 d maglite
1 exposure handle bars holder

12 18650 sanyo batteries from a vaio laptop
1 pcb to buildt up a 14.8volts 6600mah

Result: 2700 lumens, 2:30-3 hours in max, days in level2 (about 500 lumens)

How did you do it, did you cut it and glued it in? Isn't it going to get very hot. Testing mine at home on my desk it good very very hot after a while. On my bike with additional cooling it works perfect. And do you have beamshots ?
