Default MR-16 Luxeon lights

Looks interesting

http://www.optotech.com/MR16.htm

Wonder how they're going to get the heat out when used in outdoor lighting which is usually a weatherproof setup. I'm glad someone's looking at these for outdoor lighting now. My 300W transformer is already overloaded with 7 lights.

Cool! It's interesting that they list a 2W Luxeon as an option in the datasheet. It's strange. I think maybe these are supposed to be listed as 3W?

Oh, I see. The bottom of the sheet says "The 2w LEDs can be operated at 3W (1000mA) to acheive higher flux performance, but the light output depreciation/loss will be accelerated."

Hmmm... I don't recall Lumileds saying anything about that in their 3W spec sheet. Maybe I'm wrong, someone else will have to confirm this for me.

The 3W are really 1W LEDS in a more efficient thermal package I believe. So there's plenty of room for underdrive at 2W. Maybe they have more advanced info from Lumileds as far as the depreciation/loss of lumen maintenance. I'm gonna try to call them up to get pricing, though I think they want to OEM these things. Would be really neat if I can replace a few 300W transformers in my yard with a single low wattage one. I bet these things won't come cheap.

CM,
Yes the 3W is basically a cream-of-the-crop 1W on a 5W star heatsink. I got the same impression that maybe this company has more info than we do on the lumen maintenance.
