A380 Emergency Cabin Lighting System

"The emergency escape lighting system contract is with KID-Systeme GmbH (KIDS), a subsidiary of Airbus based in Buxtehude, Germany. The value of the award will depend heavily on the A380's success in the aircraft market. Airbus has received 129 orders and commitments for the new aircraft. Deliveries to KIDS will begin in 2004.

The contract calls for Astronics to develop a new and unique emergency lighting system for the A380, which will meet tight design requirements for weight, reliability, power consumption and lighting performance. The system is based on light emitting diode (LED) technology, which offers significant improvements over traditional lighting technologies. The system will include ceiling emergency lights, seat-mounted aisle flood lights, emergency door markers, and certain galley and common area lights...."
