Re: Multi-Color Illuminated Mouse Pad
Well, I'll buy one, for CPF sakes of course.
According to the shopping basket, the Lava Pads won't ship until 06-01-04, and I don't even know if they'll take my bank card yet...BRB...ok, they took Paypal, but they still needed my bank card number (as a backup payment method). But according to Paypal, the transfer went through at once.
So, figure around the 1st week of June, I'll have a Lava Pad and then report my findings here once I receive and test it.

It doesn't matter what the OS is on the computer, it's the USB or FireWire port that supplies the power.

I thought it used a USB port...if it needs a FireWire connection, then I bought it all for not.

He's also asking about another product they sell, FireWire cables with LED indicator lights in them. The Lava Pad is USB and doesn't matter what OS system you connect it to either.

Re: Multi-Color Illuminated Mouse Pad
I received the following email this morning:
Hello.
We just wanted to keep you up-to-date on the status of your TikiMac
order. Due to an over-whelming demand for the LavaPad, your order was
delayed slightly. It will ship no later than June 11th. We are sorry
for any inconvenience this may have caused.
If you have any questions, concerns, etc. please feel free to e-mail me.
{name censored}
TikiMac
So I won't get it for awhile yet.

Bummer.
By the way, if you ever needed a firewire port, you can always drop in a firewire PCI card. There's even a firewire/USB2.0 combo card available.

Re: Multi-Color Illuminated Mouse Pad
I just got a shipping notification, so I should have my LarvaPad within about a week (it's being sent via UPS ground).

Re: Multi-Color Illuminated Mouse Pad
Just got my LavaPad, and plugged it into my USB port.
It has 12 3mm LEDs (4 red, 4 green, 4 blue) embedded in its base, aiming at the four rounded corners at the perimeter of the mouse pad (or mouse mat, for those outside the US).
The LarvaPad is rigid, so I don't yet know where I'll put it.
I'll probably have something up on my website later today. I have to run a battery discharge analysis on something, and I need to install a spectrometer on the same computer (a second package I received along with the LarvaPad), and I have five flashlights I just got today that need to be evaluated, so I guess I'll be a bit busy today. So I can't promise exactly when I'll have a page about this mouse pad in publishable condition.

Re: Multi-Color Illuminated Mouse Pad
Well, the page isn't officially published yet, but there are some photographs that some CPFers may find useful.
The direct-entry URL is http://ledmuseum.jpoproductions.com/lava1.htm if anybody is interested.

Ok, the page is now officially published.
That doesn't mean it's done, it just means that anybody visiting my site can now access it.

Re: Multi-Color Illuminated Mouse Pad
I realise that this posting will resurrect a thread that was last posted to in mid-June, but I decided to give the LavaPad a rating of 4 1/2 stars, and a place in The Trophy Case on my website.
So yes, it *is* a good product - as long as you don't spill coffee or pop on it.
