Lumiled superflux blue (now with Lumiled reply!)
Lumileds distribute through Future electronics worldwide - and right now Future have no stock anywhere of blue superflux with a wavelength category of 470 nm or below.
In other words all the good blues have been creamed-off leaving warehouse after warehouse full of turquoise~green parts that are little use to anyone . After a bit of prodding it seems that Future are not going to re-order until the gash parts go, but there's little interest in anyone buying them... so...
No more beautiful blues.
It would seem that Lumileds make Future take a broad range of categories and leave the distribution chain to disperse them all in an even manner. In reality customers will reject anything over 470nm which makes 4 out of 6 bins a no-no.
Any one else run into binning problems with Lumileds? I wonder how they can carry on like this. Surely they must recognise the importance of wavelength to consumers

Re: Lumiled superflux blue no more
It speaks volumes for their process control.
Yes, I've sent back several batches of blue, a year ago.
I gave them color spectrum plots showing they did not meet the Blue bin requirements.
Consider that blue are used for making white binned parts.
Did you look to see if they had the select premium priced parts, LXHL-PB01-00F?
Side note, they did fit the Cyan binning just fine.

Re: Lumiled superflux blue no more
BTW, you may want to look into the CREE parts, they are not having these issues, since they have tighter control on their process.

Re: Lumiled superflux blue no more
Due to many clone of SuperFlux from Asia, LumiLeds seems to giving SuperFlux to sub-contactor so that this sub-con. may get orders in level-2 form while LumiLeds concentrate on die sales.

got two luxIII blues - they aren't blue.... more like light blue.
I'm returning them.

I've yet to find any from Asia to match them (open challenge ). All the competing 'superflux' manufacturers I've checked out simply can't meet the luminous flux figures of the Lumileds... 3 Lumen is the minimum for green (more like 5~6 typical) whereas 3 lumens is at the far end of the distribution with most others I've come across.
One thing that always puzzles me is that Lumileds spec the max forward current for their ingan at 50ma unlike all the others. Using very similar lead frames (hence thermal paths)why does everyone else specs the max at 30ma given similar forward voltages.

Lumileds position:

Per our earlier conversation, attached please find the datasheet for the
Super Flux components we offer, refer to page 6. The blue Super Flux is
only available in full distribution (HPWN-MB00-00000). In addition, please
find an application note that explains our labeling scheme. On page 4 - 5
it covers voltage category definitions; this is not intended to be used as
"pick and choose".

So if you need to control the wavelenght (i.e. in order to do full-spectrum colour mixing) you have to accept that a random portion of your purchase must go in the trash can.
If I go into a grocery store to buy apples, I don't want to have to come out with a bag of oranges apples and bananas just becasue they only want to sell me fruit

Don't return them - That is exactly the color I am looking for. ( I am thinking they are in the 480 - 490 range ?)

Adrian, you might need to realize that Lumileds is virtually on allocation. (as in, demand exceeds supply) The best analogy would be to remember the gas lines of the 80's - When you finally made it through the line to the pump, your choice was not always the octane rating you wanted.

If that's so, how come Future is still holding a huge stock of blue in bins 5 & 6? They've been available in various warehouses around the globe since the start of the year.
Future seem to be the main distributor worldwide. They supply all the 'catalogue' companies and other component suppliers. No doubt some companies get to buy direct from Lumileds... but I bet it's by invitation only (ring any of their published telephone numbers and Future answer the phone )
