Default Reveal bulbs any good?

I'm new to this area of the forum, and was wondering what opinion on GE Reveal bulbs are. I got some, and they seem to be better than Soft White...

I didn't particularly like them, myself. The color rendering is probably better than most incandescents, but I don't think it would be better than flourescents that are designed for that purpose. I think they do what they say they do, I just don't see the need for it.

If you get them on clearance at a price at or below standard bulbs, then maybe. While any incandesent has, by definition, a CRI (color rendering index) of 100, a good flourescent with a CRI in the high 80's or higher will actually perform better. I prefer a color temp. around 4100° K, but what you commonly find in the stores is 2700 - 3000° K to match the color temp. of incandesents. Beware most cool-white's, though their color temp. is around 4000° K their CRI is typically 65 - 70 (bad).

I wasn't too impressed with them. The color rendition wasn't that much better than regular incans, they were inefficient, and they burnt out rather fast.

A few weeks ago Walgreen's was selling some pretty good compact fluorescent bulbs for $2.00 per four-pack (!!!), apparently subsidized by the electric utility as part of a conservation program. Unfortunately I only picked up one pack because they don't seem to be offered at that price any more. I like them a lot; the place looks much better using them, and they use a lot less power. The only slightly disconcerting thing about them is the half-second or so turn-on delay, but that's just a tiny distraction.

I use them and like them. Their lumen ratings are a bit lower than other bulbs with the same power consumption, but in actual use they don't seem dimmer to me.
