top quality bright red flasher, $3 by Ray-o-vac

here is a Sports Flasher I found at my local hardware for $3. VERY BRIGHT! and very high quality construction w/ bike mount & strap. Runs on 2x AAA, so should run for a long time.

has several constant on and flashing modes. very intelligent flasher unit.

Good find, is it also bright from the side?
I see alot of these, but if you are not looking straight at it, its not that attantion getting.

still reasonable visible from the side. brightest headon.

hardware store only had 3 in stock. I bought them all of course. they are are spoken for. has 6 modes

Ray-o-vac is a national brand and should be found somewhere. what's really coool about this flasher is all the different modes. so you have the option of chosing constant on and flashing.

the plastic quick click seat post mounts apears to be quality made.

We used to sell those @ the marina. They were under a different brand name, but from the photos it looks identical. They're really nice, the light kinda radiates out into the side reflectors and makes them show brighter too. Ours were like 8.99, though. .

I've had the exact same light in 2AA on my bike some years ago. I went through five of them until I decided to buy a higher quality taillight from a dedicated manufacturer such as Cateye, Smart (known as Planetbike in the US) and Vistalite. I'm glad I did. From my experience, the mounting bracket design leaves much to be desired. The part that you tighten with the nut has a tendency to loosen itself with every bump, causing the light to point down over time. On several occasions where I parked my bike, I looked at the light only to discover that it had been pointing downwards all the time. [img]/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/ooo.gif[/img] Another bad thing is that the mounting clip (that you slide into the bracket) is not replaceable. So when it breaks you need to buy a new light. Lights of the brands I mentioned above all have replaceable clips and have extensive spare parts distribution. Last but not least, the output is pretty weak and way too directional.

If you want a really really bright taillight with reasonable side visibility you should look at the Cateye LD-600 which is daylight visible under reasonable conditions. I like it so much that I got a couple. And if you want a bright taillight with excellent side visibility you should look at the Planet Bike BRT 7. Also a really nice light. Anyway, these lights may cost more but are brighter, higher quality and have easily available spare parts. Although at $3 (you shouldn't pay more then that), it's reasonable as a cheapie and perhaps interesting as a mod platform.
