Default White to UV filter

I was just wondering if there is any such filter that changes white light spectrums to UV?

Default Re: White to UV filter

From what I gather (and I'm no expert)

- Filters only subtract light from the light coming out of the light assembly. They can not change frequencies or produce frequencies that were not originally present.
- Incans produce most of their light in the infrared range, so a filter which passed UV light only would be wastefully inefficient.
- White LEDs produce most of their light in the visible specture with a little UV. There is not enough UV to warrant filtering since to get enough UV to be useful you would have to have a very powerful LED output indeed.

I hope that helps.

edit: Rereading your question, I'm sure that there are filters that pass only UV light (eg. daylight). I guess they would use prisms to separate different wavelengths. But flashlight-wise your best bet is to get a UV LED source.

I've made UV filters for the Mag85 that works pretty good. UV filters don't work with white LEDs and works best with HID.
