I'd prefer to see a flashlight with an Iphone feature instead of an Iphone with a flashlight feature if I was to put 500 smackers on it

The "flashlight" application is really old hat. We had that back in the days of the monochrome Palm Pilots. The backlight would (oddly) make the black pixels glow, so there were applications to make the entire screen black. Also worked well as a mirror if you didn't have a screen protector on it.

As for using my iPhone for a flashlight... well... no. I have my McLux for that and it does the job admirably.

imho , with abit more programming it could come in handy as a text --> morse code converter... good for people who dont know morse code who are stuck in a situation where they need to use it... now thats something a flashlight cant do!

If you want a mil-spec phone that has a built-in 5mm white LED that's easily accessible try this phone, http://www.casiogzone.com/. (Think Casio G-Shock in a phone disguise.)

I have the Type-V version. It's not exactly svelte but it takes great pictures (for a phone), it's waterproof, dustproof, etc, and if hell freezes over and I actually forget to take one or two or four flashlights with me then I know I can fall back to use my phone flashlight.

(The latest Type-S version does have bluetooth but for some silly reason they downgraded the camera.)

i remember using my Motorola ROKR E1's photo light as a light, it was quite bright and floody too, slightly less then a photon at max, but all flood.It was enough to find you way in a cinema

Right now i have this application that has a strobing function,and multicolored light function, and a nightlight function, the strobing and coloured is kinda fun..but only if you prop it up against a wall, lightsaber beamshot style..

Is this a Java application on your phone?

I have a Motorola E816 that has a decently bright camera flash LED bank that stays on until after you're done with taking pictures. I've also found it handy in dark places, like a theater, before my days of carrying a Fenix L0D as my EDC. I'm thinking of loading new firmware on my phone to enable Java, and so if there's an application of some kind available for controlling the LED's... that would be fun!

I use my iPhone as a flashlight all the time. It's always on my bedside table and it doesn't knock over and fall to the floor making a loud crash noise waking up my wife when I go feeling for it in the dark like some other flashlights that I also keep there

I'm not sure that an app is necessary, just click the button to wake it up. Depending on your walpaper picture the light will be brighter or dimmer, but even with a smiling picture of my daughter on mine it's plenty bright enough to find stuff in the dark with adjusted eyes.

Thanks for the link, Crenshaw. Yep, Motorola phones have some great tools for interfacing (and hacking) with PC's via USB. MPT, PST, QPST, etc. I'm going to reload Bell firmware onto my E816 so I can run Java apps. Verizon's firmware stinks--awful menu system too. They just can't leave well enough alone and keep the OEM firmware on the phones they host.
