Hi guys,
I received the Ti 45 mm clips and split rings yesterday. I have put together a new price list that includes these for the clip dealers and e-mailed it off to them a little while ago. Obviously it will take time for these to become available.

I have included a warning about the small split rings in the price list and I hope this will avoid problems I expect that will arise anyways.

I too preer access to these small split rings even though they have obvious limitations so I will leave it to dealers to extend availablity to others.

Here is the new "line up":

Clip-LineUp15-45SS-Ti.jpg

Below is a shot of the split rings and you can see the permenant deformation in a small ring that was mounted on the Ti 26 which unfortunately does have a thick section that has to be straddled in the installation. I put a couple of these small split rings on the web bails on my Nikon D70 and they are perfect for my needs. I have a Nikon strap that I put the Ti 45 clips on each end and these in turn clip to the small split rings. I desire a quick mount and dismount with the camera strap as I usually don't use it. Thanks to the nesting "x" bend in the split rings, even if they are deformed with a bit of a gap, the ends are still reasonably protected against unwanted snags.

As an aside, I hope to see if I can mill an H3 slot in a couple of the Ti 45's for my personal use but this will not be an option available through me!! :green: I tried to get the factory to quote a version of the clip with a slot in place but they passed and I can't blame them. The large split ring on the Ti 45 has now become my default key ring and clip set up. On my scooter key ring, I installed the mail box key on a small Ti split ring along with a Ti 26 and this is a child to the parent large split ring. I can leave the scooter running and unclip the mail box key when I check the mail. Works cool for me! :p

I'm confused. I don't see any split rings in the pic above? Am I missing something?:candle:

The trit idea is cool. Convenience and flexibility. Hallmarks of great gear.

I'll have to pick some up for my own pesky camera situation.

You have to believe before you can see. When you are ready for the split rings, they will present themselves to you. :p

OK Oracle. :nana:

I checked out the Nitinol site and discovered it comes in bar form up to 3.5" I know it's not technically possible to build a flashlight out of this stuff but I wanted to put my order in for a Nitinol piston sleeve using a medical stent form. I think you'd have to order the Aorta size or at least a pulmonary artery.:poke: That would work right? Maybe just the Kilroy in Nitinol then? :nana:

LOL, why not? It would be superbly springy - if you sat on it and bent it out of shape it would spring back to the correct shape; if you squeezed (squoze?) the bezel, you could get a flattened oval shape beam; and if you dropped it, it would bounce back up into your hand...

Hooray!

So how long until these make their way out to us mortals? Any ETA?

I really hope someone starts up the trit installation mod service on those 45s!

Well that would be up to the potential dealers and a function of shipping time and updating their seb sites. I can't guess at an ETA.

One comment on split "rings" -- maybe someone knows where to find the split _triangles" that are/were used on camera straps to go into camera body lugs.

I have several off some old Miranda camera straps, they're isosceles triangles with the opening on the short side, they're the kind of split that has a jog in the middle so they lie nice and flat.

They're well worth salvaging if you see them, nice and sturdy.

If anyone knows a current source, I recommend them.

-------------

On the mini-clips generally -- I'd like to have the smaller clips use slightly bigger or stronger wire for the gate, I think it's proportionally a bit too small.

I've had the smallest two sizes open up accidentally a few times now by getting twisted so something presses on the little wire spring. On the 27mm and larger this hasn't ever happened. Not a big deal but it limits the usefulness of the small ones for me.

Question, if you used a wider/fatter split ring would that limit the gate opening via the angle pull?

EDIT : Problem averted. My clip fits into the hole on my C-LE. No way the clip can become detached (and lost in the snow).

Do you mean would the clip be less likely to open by itself and detach itself from the ring? If that is what you mean, then yes, a heavier-gauge ring is better.

I use a ring which will only just fit through the spring-gate of the clip. It is impossible for it to become detached accidentally.

What DM51 said. Since this thread has been brought back up to the top, I should probably add that there is a new Ti clip expected next month. My target was to get a clip between the 15 and 20 mm sizes of the stainless clips and I drew out an 18 mm Clip. After reviewing a first article sample, I decided the clip couldn't clear and attach itself to large enough diameter items so its length was increased to 20 mm to allow for more versatility. I received a first article sample of the 20 mm revision and am very happy with the sample. Hopefully production pieces will follow its form and function. The gate is solid, secure and has a good tension to it and the clip has good capacity, IMHO.

There has been very little feed back on the 45 mm clip or the split rings so I don't know how well or poorly these clips have been received. I am not really concerned because I have plenty for myself! :nana: I have been "gifting" the 45 mm clip with large split ring as a key ring and either folks are just being polite or they actually like it.

45mm? How did I miss that one???

That would be great for attaching lanyards and other gear to my pack when hiking. WOW. I'm currently using some older Al carabiners that have seen better days (old climbing gear).

Hi guys,
For the sake of continuity and since I mentioned the new clip, I should state that these are now here and some already headed out to a couple of the dealers. The new line up shot including this new 20 mm Ti clip:

Clip-Line-Up.jpg

The Ti 20 is somewhat of a mix in size and features of the stainless steel 15 mm and 20 mm.

And now let me hit you with some hard sell and marketing hype:

I'm bumping this old but fantastic thread for those of us who are just now getting in on the Sapphires. Looks like my next project will be to build myself a keyring. :D
