According to the math:

A 4x26500 will perfectly fit 3x26650 cells offering you extended run time over a 3x26500 setup. You're looking at about 5mm shorter which I'm sure the spring will take up.

Or you can run 3 easy to get 26650 Lifepo4 cells @ 9.6 - 9.9 volts for a reliable, poof proof, direct drive, Mag85.

If the spring will allow an extra 10mm you may be able to fit 4x26650 in a 5x26500.

I run Lifepo4 in all my hotwires.

FM, Can you confirm that 4 26650s will fit in the 5 cell 26500 body? and can you post pictures of the natural grey? I would like to run 4 26650 safe chems with the FM1909.

You have the same idea I have about putting together a longer running 1909. I plan on using 3ea. LiMnNi 26650s in the FM4x26500 body. This will be about .227" shorter than 4x26500s and will fit nicely. I'm not sure yet but I may need to add a aluminum spacer behind the tail cap spring or use a modified spring. Although 4x26650s may fit the FM5x26500 body I don't believe you want to go this way to run the 1909. When I get mine up and running I'll post it in the incan forum.

Four 26650s is going to be 12.8 volts (3.2 ea lithium iron phosphate from K2 energy solutions.) and that puts you just at the max voltage the bulb will take according to the Destructive bulb test from Lux. Theres bound to be some resistance so with a soft start everything should be just fine. I have already run the bulb on 3 18650s at 12.6 with no issues.

I can now confirm that the FM4x26500 body is a perfect match for 3x26650s. Using the new style mag switch the tail cap spring does compress the batterys enough for a good connection. I did pull mine a bit to make it a little longer while I had it out to do the resistance mod. This is one beautiful light for some one wanting a longer running FM09 and has a nice feel in the hand. All I need now is the Kiu kit that should be here any day. Thank you FM for your quick service.

Is the stock $7 switch safe to use with this setup and 64623, will it flash on initial cold turn on? What voltage do you speculate bulb seeing in this setup with the IMR's?

Stock switch is PR base and 64623 is GY6.35 bi pin bulb. If you install bi pin socket on modified switch which called KIU switch then it will work and many other people do the same thing.
Bulb will see about 15 volts with 4 fully recharge IMR batteries.

Thanks, but still doesn't answer my question if the stock switch will work with this setup? I know Kiu will, any reason not to use the stock switch?

FM, can you or anyone else answer post #7 for me, thanks
You can use the stock switch with a KIU socket/heatsink but the switch won't last very long at what the 623 draws. The 623 bulb will pull the volts down to about 14.5-14.8v.

Let me say this. I have found the stock mag switch handles the 5.5a. the FM1909 draws @ 11.5v. with no problems. "This seems to be the max the stock mag switch is able to carry" I tried the 440 bulb in another light and with it drawing 6a. @ 19.2v. it doesn't last very long. Now the stock mag switch will carry the 10.5a. the 458 draws for a while but won't last too many cycles. Soft starting is much easier on switches and everything else. My 3x26500 FM1909 has over heated the McClicky switch and it has fell apart. I will be replacing it with a soft start. These 26500 bodys are as nice as you're going to find and when they're gone I don't know when we'll be seeing them again. So folks you may want to grab a couple while you can.

I'm shocked that there are still so many left. This is one of the top 3 best looking FiveMega lights, and God knows, I have a ton of his.
