I did a search for G2L and came up empty, can you help me out please? I am looking at buying a few of the newer version G2LYL to put in my vehicles, the price seems pretty good ($158 shipped for 3). Here are my questions.....

How do the new KX4 heads compare to the old P60L?

Will the KX4 accept aftermarket drop-ins?

How is the beam pattern/tint of the KX4?

Which emitter does the new version have?

Thank you for looking, hopefully I am on the right track here.

Hi F250,

Had you gotten answers to these questions prior to the crash? If not let me know, I have both versions and can try to compare them more for you or take a pic or whatever.

In general though, the two are similar in performance. They both Use SSC P4 emitters, the difference being output. P60L at 80 lm and KX4 at 120 lm. Tint is decent, no real crazy off colors, but in my experience, P4s typically offer nice creamy white tints, maybe a little bluish at times, not usually green or purple. I have I think 8 different lights with P4s in them. Call me old fashioned, but it's probably my favorite emitter. Part of that is the excellent task beam it provides, great LED for EDC lights IMO. I'd say the G2L has moderate throw. Not an L4 wall of light, but not a TIR laser either. Nice hotspot, decent spill. Overall, great lights to me.

Oh, and almost forgot, KX4 heads are sealed, they don't accept dropins.

I had a G2L-FYL which was the old style with the 80 lumen surefire drop in and a clicky cap. I had gotten it for $60 shipped on a closeout from bravocompanyusa. I should have bought more than one. I loved it. I misplaced/lost it last weekend. I am replacing it with a used old style 6p w/ a 80 lumen Surefire LED drop in and a clicky cap. I gave $60 shipped for this one too. I had tried to find another G2L-FYL for that price without the sealed head but they were all $100 on evilbay. I find that the 80 lumen dropins provide me with enough light to do what I need to do. I don't think 120 would be way too much but like the idea of being able to change them out if need be.

Matter of fact I am trying to find another drop in that would have 80 to 120 lumens that would maybe have a longer runtime and/or work with a 17670 rechargable.

Check out the Malkoff M61.Several power levels available and the M61LL(70 lumens) can be used in the all nitrolon G2s.You can see plenty of discussion on this board about these modules, they are the best available P60 size drop-ins IMHO.My preference is for the older G2L, mostly because of the Malkoff M61!

I try and find older 80 lumen models because they can be upgraded. The newer ones can't. Additionally, the lower output models should run longer, so if it's an emergency (car light) that won't really get much daily use, the older ones might be better.

Perfect backup IMO would be older G2L with P60L replaced with Malkoff M61L (or WL)... gives tough little thingy for nuclear disaster with module capable of running for 5hrs on primaries (or about 2hrs on 17670)... that's my setup in the around the apartment at home and another one in the vehicle (both have additional OR McClicky installation)... Not so cheap when you put everything on paper but it just might be "BMW" or "Mercedes" in flashlight terms... :)

If you are going the G2 route, there are many options. The new G2X Pro has 15/200 lumens for MSRP of $69. You can step up to the Surefire G2D three stage lights with 15/60/120 lumens. If you want future upgrade capability and not real high output, you can still find places selling the G2 incan version. These can be had for $40 or less and work with the M61LL or M61WLL module. As stated above, you need the metal bezel of a G2L to run the Malkoff M61L or M61WL. All of thes options are good, I chose the Malkoff route because I wanted the Warm color option, something Surefire isn't supplying yet.

I hope its O.K. to post this here.
So how does the G2L with KX4 compare to the G2X? According to the Surefire website the KX4 is rated at 120 lumens for tactical runtime of 2 hours
while the G2X is rated at 200 lumens for the same runtime. Does the G2X use a more efficient LED?
Has anyone compared to two to see if the G2X is noticeably brighter?

Thanks.
