Voltage/Capacity chart for 10180 cells, also 10180 charger Q

Does that voltage - capacity chart that gets posted here apply to all 3.7v cells, even the tiny 10180? I think mine registered ~3.9v when the blue light on the charger shut off, not 4.2v.

4.2 volts 100%
4.1 about 90%
4.0 about 80%
3.9 about 60%
3.8 about 40%
3.7 about 20%
3.6 empty for practical purposes
<3.5 = over-discharged

Also, does anyone know if that Quantum usb charger will accept only the correct current to charge the cell? I know most USB ports supply 500 mA but some supply up to 1000 and I have a mobile charger that supplies up to 2000. So I wonder if the 10180 charger were hooked up to a port that supplies 1A, would the charger down-regulate the amt of current?

I don't want to fry my precious little D2 10180 cells ;)

If your cells are only charging to 3.9v then it's likely that your charge rate is too high (which will cause a premature completion of the charging because of the way that CV phase of the charging algorithm terminates...generally at something like 1/10 of the CC phase current) or it could mean that your cells have a high resistance.

Try a charge rate of about 30% of the cell's capacity or lower for a good charge. If we're talking about a cell that only has 60mAh of capacity then that would only be a charge rate of 18mAh. That's a very tiny charge rate.

Don't know about your Quantum charger but I certainly would not think that the supply power (assuming it's high enough for the charger or better) should dictate your charge rate.

I think the AW 10180 are (were?) 90mAh capacity .... Very few chargers have a low enough charge current to recharge at around 0.5-0.6C (and I don't know the rate for the Quantum USB charger).

I use the CP charger made & sold by a member here on the forum.

Also, very low capacity, tiny cells of this type may lose peak capacity relatively quickly, especially when stored at "full" SoC.

Yeah, that's the rating but it's not what I got in my testing. Seems like it was more like 60mAh.

Even with my iCharger (hobby charger) I think the lowest I can charge is like 50 mAh which to a 10180 would be like charging a 3400 cell at 2.8a!

I have also noticed that I can never charge a 10180 to full capacity.

Thx for the feedback. The new Veleno Quantum D2 comes with a USB charger which I hope dictates the charge rate. It doesn't get hot or anything, so I don't think it is taking too high a current, I mean it's gotta down regulate it I suppose. I love the light, complements my preon p0 nicely. So I'll prob be ordering some spare cells anyway.

I am using a ravpower mobile charger pack to charge it, not USB from a computer, and this mobile pack supposedly has a 2A and a 1A USB charging output, not the standard 500mA that computers/laptops supply.

It's actually a great mobile charger for tablets, phones, etc, $40 for 10,400 mAh capacity. It has 4x 18650's in it supposedly.

But I'm sure it can't be charging a 90 or 60 mAh cell with 1A of current, the veleno-made charger must be accepting the right amt. You know I'll just ask Illumination Supply and post the answer I receive.

Last time I got better results, dmm read 4.02 - 4.09v on the 10180 after charger shut off.

Maybe the margin of error on the charger algorithm is just higher with such a small capacity cell?

At what rate of discharge ?

I want to say it was 50ma as I believe this is the lowest discharge I can do. I'll be glad to re-run the test and report back here. I checked two cells, btw. One was older (that came with my Drake) and the other was brand new. The results were pretty much the same.

Thanks for the info ....

If you do happen to run another test, I would be interested in the details :)
