I use them on my helmet and in hand, and have a Class 3 IR laser/illuminator on my rifles. I've been using the drop in heads for my Surefires. The quality on them is always spotty. Most end up strobing and I have to chuck them. Not sure why that happens either.

Is there a good source for these anywhere? Anyone else use IR?

The SureFire HellFire with IR filter is my longest range NV illuminator.

This is my favourite at the moment: Oslon-InfraRed-light-with-3inch-aspheric

Anyone experience with the Maxabeam with its IR-filters?

The Attilla-200 is restricted and it's 150mW illuminator range is 20k m. I'm more interested in the HDS as it would be perfect in a pocket or on my helmet.

Can the Surefires be reliably converted or should I give that dream up?

If led then Oslon is the only option.
Almost any flashlight can be converted, no reason why Surefire could not.
As you might know, diameter determines throw. If weight or size or your favorite host is what limits your preference then just start searching the forum for how to?

I'm sorry I'm very much new to the forum, what is Oslon? I do not know what is involved in converting the flashlights, beyond the $20 cheapo IR drop in heads, if you could explain briefly, thanks.

Where to start...

You will need a flashlight body, which you seem to have,
an Osram Oslon Black 840nm IR led, on a star probably,
a heatsink that fits the Surefire and some thermal glue or paste,
and a driver that matches the battery and the drive current within margins of the led.

So start searching 'flashlight mod led surefire', and 'datasheet oslon black infrared'.
From there it's simple.
By the way, I don't know your host, is it by chance a P60-style flashlight?
Then also search 'P60 infrared drop-in'.

All my Surefires are the P60 style. Thanks for the search tips!

IR search light for 1p408 (army)

I have a IR search light for a 1p408

Not sure what I can do with it and want to sell it. But I have no idea what the value of such a device is.

Does someone of you know how to value it and where I should best sell it?

Thanks!

I have a T20 Olson Black 850nm IR w/ 52mm 2x lens & 850nm IR Filter (pic below). I am sure this can reach up to 500yds (you can faintly see the beam up to 800yds). I also have a 58mm 4.5x lens that can reach up to 700yds. This light is too bright for CQB as it will washout and may damage your tubes.

without an IR Filter

with 850nm IR Filter. IR Filter greatly reduces the visible IR signature aka red glow. Using IR Filter will slightly reduce the throw. I keep it on at all times.

Envis w/ MX-10160c autogated tube using 1x lens + 680nm IR Filter. Clear skies & quarter moon. About 350yds across this pond.

Same as above except with 58mm 4.5x telephoto lens

Square IR Beam is from T20IR w/ Doubler lens on high

Same as above with my cell phone zoomed to 4x. House would be dark without IR Light

For CQB I use a Eagletac P20C2 MKII Osram Platinum Dragon 850nm IR LED flashlight
