DEFT-X OMG Strikes Back!!!

I received the light and finally had a chance to do some testing. All I can say is the throw is AWESOME if you can find a dark area. In the city, there is too much ambient light to do it justice. The test results card signed by Michael comes in a 996 kcd.

I prefer the cool/neutral white color over the Deft-X's yellowish warm tint. I struggle to make things out down range with warm tint. It is probably just my eyes. I didn't know if there was a choice since there was not a drop down box indicating so when I ordered a few days ago. The last 11 units in stock were already built, but I would have paid extra for the cool/neutral tint - knowing what I know now - even at the expense of reduced candela. I wonder if mine can be modified after the fact?

I also find the tail cap clicky to be inconveniently located for tactical quick on/off action. I have gotten acclimated to the switch ergonomics of my TK75, which is used nightly. I realize the host is based on the Sup Beam K40 so it is no way a complaint about Michael's excellent design work. However, a momentary pressure switch located about the middle of the light would be great. I checked Sub Beam's website and noticed they do not offer a remote tail cap pressure switch for the K40. I am not surprised given that this light is too big for mounting on a rifle. Does anyone have a potential solution?

So... Which end are we supposed to take off to change the batteries? I remember not completely understanding the first post about it.

Thanks for the help -John

I have a K40VN which is the same host. I always take it off at the head and never unloosen the tail cap. That is what I was told to do because of the switch and its parts being disrupted. i do not think they are very secure!

That would be my guess but Michael or someone who has the Deft-X could give you confirmation either way. :santa:

When I received mine, I opened the body just behind the ring switch to put the batteries in, and it unscrewed pretty easily. Later on, I was looking into modifying the tail cap to explore the possibility of wiring up a remote momentary switch and it was VERY TIGHT.... almost as if the threads were locked with blue Loctite. I unscrewed it anyway with resistance, and it had an O-ring so it was purposed for opening at that end, perhaps only once for final assembly of the light. However, there was a small circular logic board installed into the back of the cap itself and thus, I aborted the modification idea (for now). I would say opening the body behind the ring switch is the obvious route.

Thank you very much for your help & experiences. I thought that I remembered it that way, but just wasn't certain.

Any news on upcoming models? I'm curious about another EDC-size light? My post-Christmas budget likely won't suffice to procure one, but I'm still curious!

Hey Saab I just read that you 'Just' sold a batch of 11 Deft-Xs. What do you just keep things more casual now and just announce a sale when u happen to have some ready? I remember how heptic & crazy it got with people when their purchased lights weren't finished yet so this seems like a better way to go!! A less stressful way

I have a question, DEFT-X vs TK61vn V3.5
who has a better throw ???

Deft-X will.Keep in mind these are totally different lights. the Deft-X has virtually no peripheral light as it is an Aspheric.

Deft~ 980Kcd/1980m of throw

Fenix Tk61vn V1.9 prototype
Samsung 20r
1630@ turn on
1554@ 30 sec
920 high
531 mid
189 low
Throw - 741,000 lux is ~ 1721 meters of throw.

Has anybody heard from Saabluster lately? I'm still waiting on a DEFT-X I ordered mid-December. Emails and voice mails have gone unanswered? Anybody else still waiting on a DEFT-X?

Thanks,
Greg
