Want a Jacket with a Hood

I agree on layering. Saying that I just bought my wife a The Northface 3-1 Jacket with the thermoball version of the midlayer.
She is always cold and says that this is a really warm combination.
She can wear the thermoball alone in not so cold/windy situations, or zip them together to beat the weather when it is really crappy.

I would have gotten one too, but I find the arms on TNF shells are just a bit too short for me, so I mixed & matched. I went with TNF down Quince as the midlayer, with a Columbia lightly insulated rain shell. Can't zip together, but I get the same results.

If you are really worried about weight, go down rather than synthetic fill.
