Your Favourite Zebralight and Why ???

Interested to see which are people's favourite Zebralights and the reasoning behind choosing the one you did and if you've bought it with a specific purpose in mind??

Also to find out what the different lettering is ... I'm guessing it's just the tints and the sc62w for arguments sake is warmer than the one without the w ..... again interested what tint people generally prefer.

Lastly I know they do the "floody ones" ... does anyone know apart from the Hi which ones tend to have a narrower beam???

It's hard to choose. I love the SC600w III HI for the throw out of such a small package. I tend to like somewhat floody lights, but this one is a must have. Very useful for hiking when I need to see in the distance thru the woods or down a trail when my H600w doesnt't cut it.

My H600w sees the most use. It always comes with me backpacking or while kayaking at night. Crazy long runtime makes a 1xAA headlamp seem useless to me.

SC63w is nice too for a small 1x18650 EDC.

No matter what, I have to go with a neutral white tint. Problem is, they vary so much you never know what you'll get.

If pressed to pick only one as my favorite...H600w for the functionality. Everyone needs a headlamp!

I will restrict this reply to 1 light, since I do have many favorites for different things.

My #1 Zebralight for EDC

SC62w

I chose it for an EDC.
  • Single Cell
  • 18650 Cell
  • Reliable
  • Nice size of EDC
  • Great Tint for indoors and outdoors
  • Good Throw/Flood Balance for EDC
  • Great UI
  • Wide output range is versitle enough for my EDC
  • Almost Deep carry clip (deep enough).
  • I've tried more lights than I care to admit... this one worked the best for me. I also EDC a keychain light a good backup, and on that very rare ocassion I don't have room for the SC62w or I forgot it, I still have a light.

It's as if we were twin separated at birth! My slight changes are in red, but I completely agree with the reasoning behind your post.

Actually, I forgot to mention I put d-c-fix film on my H600w lens. So it's nearly identical to the H600Fw :)

Without it, it's too throwy for a headlamp. I need some flood while hiking. I like that the d-c-fix floods like the Fw, while still keeping a tiny bit of hotspot.

hmm, I want to know as well. I've held out on getting one (actually ordered from skylumen the sc52, but vinh ran out of neutral white), main reasons being clunky shape and design (look like military surplus) and large for the cells they use; also weird UI and not cheap. I will try one someday, most likely the sc52 due to more manageable size relative to good output on a 14500

I think the ones I least like are the AA ones ... the 32's have better run times and more pocket ability the sc62's aren't that much bigger than the AA ones but with massively improved run times ... just my thoughts but if you've got both of those and of course the sc600w Mkiii Hi then you're pretty much sorted .... now all I need to do is work out how can I buy them all without the boss seeing my credit card statement and having a complete fit :grin2:

Can someone tell me what PID is / stands for as well

My favorite is the H600w because it has enough throw to use as a helmet light when cycling. I use it along with a 1400 lumen neutral white floody bar light and the H600w reaches out beyond the bar light and they blend together well. Then when hiking at night or just general headlamp use I diffuse the beam with Magictape it it's a perfect floody beam.

..large for the cells they use...

Please show me the vast array of lights that make the Zebralights "large for the cels they use"

I think someone has you fooled or the images you have seen has led to you fooling yourself..

EDIT: Go see Selfbuilts reviews; the images speak for themselves; if there was something smaller I am confident he would have shown us a comparison.

http://www.candlepowerforums.com/vb...650)-Review-RUNTIMES-BEAMSHOTS-VIDEO-and-more!

Going back to reviews of the previous generations, you can clearly see each and every one was a class leader when released in regards to size to output, output to runtime and size to runtime ratios...

I love that my SC600w Mk III Hi, Mk III (regular) and MkIIL2 are basically the same size as lights from other manufacturers that take smaller cells.

Just off the top of my head, my Surefire EB1, Astrolux S1 (in 18350 config), my HDS Clicky and my small P60 hosts are all the size of my Zebralights, except the Zebralight has a 18650 cell with far greater capacity.

Yes, that person was just smoking some bad *&(^ and now everything looks bigger than it is. Zebralight has always been know for their small size relative to their battery cell from the first light they ever released.

On the topic of Size though...
I'm actually surprised how the small change in size of the SC600w MkIII HI (well mk III in general) compared to the original SC600 seems to make a lot of different for pocket carry. The original SC600 was too large for me to carry compared to the 60 series at the time... but it's not impossible to think I may be able to transition to the SC600 series for EDC at some point. I don't like having to give up battery compatibility with some of the best cells from the past, but damn that mk3 now matches the SC62 in length. The pocket clip mount on the 62 is still much better, but the 30% increase in weight with my battery options is not that much and the diameter increase seems manageable. The XHP50 version might just tip me over the edge.

I 100% agree... the small difference between the MkII and MkIII is enough for me to comfortably have my SC600w clipped to the inside of my jeans pocket. I also like the relocated lanyard hole on the Hi... lets me mount the clip in my preferred spot.

I was looking at this and whilst I don't own either was comparing it to other torches I have for size ... in terms of a pocket carry I think you'd notice the difference in the head size if you're looking for something compact ... not massive but enough to prefer one over the other as an EDC.

That said they're both still small bit if I had the funds I'd get both but for different uses / situations .... B'day not that far away and Xmas not too far behind ... 2 down one to go :grin2: !!

What tints do most prefer???

I put the clip on my MkIII essentially at the 9 o'clock position bezel down when when holding the light. It seems very comfortable to me there. I've been testing it a little and it seems to fit in my hand great and the switch seems just a little lighter than my SC 62. I still need to try it more at the 3 o'clock position as that might be more comfortable for me and align better when I grab my light, but at 9 it is good in my left hand which I use outdoors sometimes even though I'm right handed. I don't mind the 6 o-clock position like my 62 series, but for some reason 3 or 9 seems better on the 600 mk III

What position do you like your clip in?
