This is a rebadged generic Chinese zoomable light. For the right price, <$10, there is nothing wrong with them and they are fun little toys.

Look up "lumitact g700" by Advanced Knife Bro on YouTube. The author is active on here; the video sums up what you need to see about these clones in a humorous way.

I had a girlfriend of mine text me one day asking me about that very light. She has a lot of animals (all pets) on a good bit of property, and could use a good light. I sent her a link to the Mhanlen vido ya'll are talking about. A little while later she responded "I knew you were the right person to ask". Not sure how she thought of asking me, but...

LOL. I watched this video today. I actually received this light as a Christmas gift. Maybe my standards are low but for the most part I like it for now. I've just read those bad reviews so I was curious if the experts here have actual experience with these ?

There are reasons to like it for sure.

The reason it takes so much flak is simply because it's a $6 flashlight that gets advertised as a $200 light so that people think they're getting a deal while getring ripped off at $20 or even $59. Everything about the lights specs are overstated (fraudulent). As a $6 light it's fine so long as you know what you're getting and don't get ripped off.

The Bell and Howell craptical light is total junk. When zoomed in its literally a small square beam, I think it looks like a chip of some sort. My pops broke one out the Christmas Eve in an attempt to show off his new tactical light. I felt bad for bursting his bubble and telling him he got ripped off again. This is the same guy that falls for the rust protection at the car dealership and just about every infomercial from the ab blaster to stain orator. I showed him my maglite xl 200 , mag tac and malkoff md2 to compare. There is no comparison. A maglite out of the box blows it away.....and forget about the malkoff they are in another league all together.

Pretty much all of the cheap zoomies will show the LED die square when they're zoomed in. Just the nature of the beast.

I saw one YouTube video on the XYZ 700 (same thing) and the guy was on his cul-de-sac street, shining it way down at some other houses and it looked to be well over 100 yards, but there was that square.

Anyhow...

I bought a Meco that is basically the same thing, but mine doesn't work right. Mine goes to the next level every time I turn it on, which is really annoying. I'd rather have no memory than remember it was on high 10 minutes ago so turn on medium this time, even worse if it was on low last time and turn on strobe this time.
At least I only paid 7 bucks which included international shipping (China to New Zealand).

The Meco light isn't terrible (apart from my one with the weird UI issue) but more output would be nice. Mine has 2,000 lumens of output . . . well they say 2,000, more like 200-250. I bought LED lights in 2008 with output in that range, now there are plenty of 18650 powered LED lights with 500+ lumens of output and under 250 just doesn't seem very impressive. Maybe on a 1 x AAA light 250 lumens is pretty decent, but on a 18650 light - not so much.

But I do like the zoomie optics especially on max wide - you get a really nice wide beam of light with no hotspot, great area illumination.
So I've ordered a Convoy BD04 (US$23.20 shipped) which looks to be much higher quality and has 600 Lumen of output (2.5-3 times as much as the Meco).
There is also a Brinyte B158 with 900 lumens for around 30 bucks that I'm looking at, might be alright.

Bottom line:
Bell & Howell - way overpriced.
Meco - cheap light but low price, OK value but there are plenty of better lights if you pay a bit more.
Zoomies - nice to have in your collection but spend 20 - 30 bucks on better lights with over twice the lumens of the Meco.

I have had three co-workers ask me about these lights over the past year. I think even Wally World sells one I the As Seen On TV aisle. At least they ask, not always before buying one but oh well.

LOL at mhanlen's review video around the 4:21 mark where he is demonstrating the retracting head repeatedly while holding the flashlight at waist level...
